Well I have a good opportunity to get a hold of a nice 82' 380sl. grey on beige interior. The good is that it's pretty solid and interior is mint. Car has only 140k miles on it and it comes with the factory hardtop. The bad is that their is a slight misfire on 1 cylinder and that it may need piston rings due to it burning oil. The guy wants 2,200 for it. Also if you guys can tell me about what to expect and what can go wrong and things of that nature. Thanks.

Pass on it. I own an 85 380SL with 128k original miles on it. It's a big, slow cruiser. I've been trying to sell it for 3K and I've gotten no luck -- and the engine is REALLY strong. It just won't pass smog in Cali because of an exhaust leak that I'm too lazy to fix. Mine has the hardtop, and a new-ish vert top.

If you love restoring cars, go for the 2002. It'll be a lot more fun in the end.
