    Here we go again

Fucks sake this is just not good and really WTF, Another Rig in the gulf goes up in flames!!!!!

A platform producing oil and natural gas caught fire in the Gulf of Mexico earlier today, the Coast Guard reported. All 13 workers escaped safely. The fire was extinguished about 4 p.m. ET, and the Coast Guard said it could not confirm initial reports of an oil sheen.

Thirteen workers aboard the rig were reportedly thrown into the water, but have been accounted for. One person is reported injured.
These things are a couple hundred feet above the water right? Must've been a fun ride for those guys.

Well news says the Coasties have picked them all up and are fine. Dont know for sure what kind of facility it is, Production platform Vs Drilling rig??? Dont even know just where it is yet or whos running it.

Edit: Mariner energy is the outfit running it just off Grand Isle.

Edit 2: Seems it was not in a production capacity right now.

Actually regulation on oil and gas drilling here in the US is much more lax than any other industrialized nation.

Even if it were 'the most heavily regulated industry in the world', that doesn't mean the regulations aren't still too lax to prevent shit like this. I'm just surprised you came up with an accusation as outlandish at Eco Terrorism. That's retarded.... like environmentalists would want another gulf oil spill.

Might as well blame it on rabid dogs, sounds about as plausible to me :loco:

This happened yesterday. Can't get more current.

Greenpeace occupies Arctic deep sea oil rig
Early this morning Greenpeace activists occupied a Cairn Energy exploratory oil rig in the Arctic Ocean off of the coast of Greenland.

Four Greenpeace activists, who are also expert climbers, avoided Greenland police and the Danish navy to climb the rig and suspend themselves in tents. The activists’ behavior has caused a temporary shut down of Cairn Energy’s drilling efforts.

From a report in the Telegraph:

The campaigners, who are protesting against what they claim are the ”huge risks” energy companies are taking with the environment by drilling for oil in deep water, say they have enough supplies to occupy the tents for several days.

Greenpeace hopes that the temporary disruption will be enough to force Cairn to abandon their exploratory drilling before harsh Arctic winter conditions set in.

According to Greenpeace, environmental concerns surrounding deep sea oil drilling in the Arctic include the risk of a Deepwater Horizon-like oil spill, compounded by a far less hospitable clean up environment than the Gulf of Mexico, as well as any eventual significant oil discoveries extending dependence on fossil fuels and thereby exacerbating dangerous climate change.

From an article in the Guardian:

In the Arctic an oil spill would destroy vulnerable and as yet untouched habitats, while the cold water would prevent the oil from breaking down quickly. Any emergency operation to tackle a disaster would encounter huge technical and logistical problems in such a remote area.

Greenland’s prime minister has criticized Greenpeace’s actions, due to their illegality and potential negative impact on Greenland’s economy.

According to a report by the Associated Press, the Danish navy has no plans to remove the activists, stating that the authority lies with Greenland’s police.

Thinking it would be easy to sabotage these things. How often had this happened prior to the BP incident? Honestly the chance of two back to back seem outrageous odds.

It was tinfoil hat tongue in cheek statement.

Thank you Farbin thats just what I was gonna post. That and these douche bags have had a long history of pulling this shit all over the world since the 70's in the North sea, to the gulf and and every where else. Not to mention similar groups that set fire to heavy equipment to halt logging or construction, or the ones that drive out to choke points on popular off road trails and Burn the Vheical there to keep people from using it.

These people are Radicals and to them the ends Justify the means even if there is some collateral damage, to the environment, to stop the great industry. Watch whale wars for 20 mins and you will see the shame mentality, on full display.

Edit: What about that crazy fuck that was in the Discovery Channel building yesterday??????

Yes I read that too. But there is a gaping difference the size of blunt's cock between occupying a drill rig for the purpose of a political statement and blowing one up. One causes no harm except to shut down production for a few days; the other causes massive environmental damage.

Environmentalists no more want another oil spill than conservatives want a 2nd term of Obama.

Again to radicals the ends justify the means, especially if it gives your cause the political clout to get your agenda realized.

From the Book "Rules for Radicals" and made infamous by Rahm Emanuel and Hillary.

after the BP spill, Im sure all oil/drilling companies reviewed their policies and went though a rigorous inspection. Last thing a oil/drilling company needs is another fault due to being lax.

Eco terrorism was what came to my mind as well but held back saying anything till the evidence comes out.

Extreme Environmentalists would gladly take 1 more spill to try and stop all drilling in Eco Sensitive locations. Obama would use it as well saying he created more jobs for the clean up.

I just hope all that were on the rig, lived and will be ok!
