I was at the office when it all went down, about 10 miles away in Foster City. Our windows face north, so I got to watch the actual burning for a while. HUGE fire, I've never seen anything like it in my life.

Really sucks for those people and the town :[

Natural gas line had been leaking. PGE went out to verify and did absolutely NOTHING! Didn't take much to have it ignite and blow everything to hell. Flames as high as 200 feet. Its unfortunate that it happened but they said it could have been much worse if it wasn't a cool day with moisture in the atmosphere around San Bruno. If it were a hot dry day with wind it would have been another Oakland hills fire.

we get fires almost every year.... couple years ago there were wild fires from malibu all the way down to san diego! i traveled to every city between to watch it, got real intense in Irvine where i lived. ash gets everywhere and smells like a bonfire for a long time.
and why is it almost always arson?

Depending on the news source, either a 24-inch or 30-inch diameter natural gas transfer line ruptured and resulted in a huge explosion. The gas line, with a pressure of 200+ psi, is a few feet underground but the blast cleared a hole that is estimated to be 15 feet deep and about 25-30 feet across. Homes in the immediate area were gone in seconds.....just part of the foundation and chimney is all that remains. 50+ homes destroyed by spreading fire, dozens more damaged, at least 4 dead and dozens injured. The gas line belongs to PG&E (Pacific, Gas & Electric).

I think the problem was caused by over-regulation.

                  Wrong. It's all Boosh's fault.
