A beat ass late 80's lifted pick up with balls hanging off it and the confederate flag on the rear window.
Hick status.

No longer stock ride height, rolling as low as a daily driver in New England should without worrying about breaking an oil pan.
I'm in the process of buying my beater. Guy started asking $1900 so I stopped by and checked it out, he's done a bunch of stuff to the engine and axles, but neglected the body. He told me he is in dire need of money to pay child support.
I drove by again this week and he lowered it to $1200
Jeep Cherokee is a great beater. You really can just beat them and they keep on kicking. Plus you get a little extra space when you need to transport people around.
Hey we fixed that "lifted" problem, dick. But I'll be damned before you take my banner from me!

I rock the E30 as a winter beater (and spring/summer/fall beater). With a set of beefy tires and lsd I have no problems. I'm in northern Mass and we get a decent amount of snow too...

I'll offer $800, lol

Pretty soon, I'll be looking for a winter beater. My budget is probably around 2-3K for something reliable, with some snow tires.
Toss me some ideas, so I don't have to spray Fluid Film on the bottom of my car and just drive it. I'd really rather not do that, but I guess if I have to, I will.
What about junky Japanese trucks, or 'murrican quarter/half ton pickups? I defer to the expertise of r3vlimited hick members JGood, gazellebeigem3, and honorary Connecticut hick Desaevious. mrsleeve's advice will be summarily ignored. I do not need a diesel 1T with a dump body and welder.
?
Gee thanks, I am not gonna tell you that you should buy such a truck unless you have a need for such things.
All japanese full size are shit and most of the smaller ones are domestic and import are not that great.
You want a cheep 4wd micro truck, S10/s10 blazer is the answer you are looking for, they are fairly reliable, other than the classic GM slush box overdrive clutches wearing out. they rattle and most are rusty, and what not PERFECT WINTER BEATER, they will start every time you turn the key and will get you where you want to go. maybe not in style or great comfort but they will get you home.
Cheap for parts, and other running costs, the 4.3 is touch hard on fuel for the size but 22ish mpg is what I used to get in my fleet of s10's I had for 10 years. I had a 86, 88, 93, 97, and 00. Only put 2 trannys in all in them and they all were stone reliable and would go any where in the snow, till you have more than a foot 1/2 on the ground.
good tires and 50-100lbs in the bed over the rear axle an you will hardly ever need the 4wd.
if you really want to go full size you can find 88-95ish burbs and some 1/2 trucks for that 3k mark, but they will be in really rough of supper high mileage and you prolly dont want to feed a 350 for a dd.
