Picking up stuff in the US and bringing it back to Canada I declare it at the border and have to pay tax on it at customs. The two times I've done I just printed my online receipts. With used goods you have to ask the seller for a receipt with his contact info in case customs wants to confirm the transaction with him. I can't imagine it being much different for you.

If you try this with beer they will look at you like you're trying to run guns.

I remember my parents doing it years ago and it was never an issue. In fact I think they refunded you certain tax at the border IIRC. But this was in like 2000.

Drive the e30, swap seats there, junk/sell old seats. Drive back. Problem solved.

Show up at the custom's booth, big smile, declare you bought used car parts, show "a" sale receipt at the same time. Pay whatever taxes and drive home.

Agent will be happy. Your country will be happy. You'll be happy. No sweat.

They ask you what you bought while there...at least that's what they did when I came back over with my buddy this past summer. Both of us are 18 and they didn't even look in the car. They asked us more questions when were going into Canada than when we were coming back into the US...I was kind of surprised by this and thought coming back would be a longer process.

I don't think they would even notice or care if it's just 2 unwrapped (not obviously new) car seats jammed in there
