^^ I crashed one of these through a wire fence (broke it with my neck, awesome scar for about a year), down a 20 foot dirt embankment, across an asphalt driveway and almost into the cross street once... great bike, good times. always wear a helmet kiddies and never ride angry lol.

Nice bike, I would love to have one again.

2006 zx6r 636, bought her June 2012 with 4900 miles on her, has about 9500 on her now. Absolutely my favorite bike I've ever ridden!

And for the LoLz.....my old bike, 1994 Ninja zx-6e

I picked up my old bike about a year ago. It was a 2006 CBR 600rr with 7600 miles on it. Absolutely loved this thing. I felt I out grew it and traded it off for a 2008 1000rr. Now starting to toy with this one. Absolutely so much fun!

Probably will sell the original stars and get the mag stars for the track. Ugly as sin but light as hell and relatively cheap.
          Im now E30less.

Here's the ride I've had for the past decade or so. 1997 Kawaski zx7r. I absolutely love this machine. While we are suffering in the worst drought in a century, made for a nice 63 degree ride this afternoon here!

Really like that corbin-fitted KZ 650 posted earlier. I owned a 1978 KZ 650 for 16 years before buying current bike. KZ 650 had 30,000 on it when I bought it and I rode it probably 60,000 more miles over those next 16 years. Always was cold blooded, wouldn't like to run in the rain but never left me stranded once!

Trying to put together a quick suggestion sheet of inexpensive, not squid sporty, faired, reliable, starter bikes (to keep for more than a year) for a friend, added what I could recall/look up below.

As I have not owned any of them, and have ridden only the SV I would like some quick thoughts/comments/experiences to add.

As for me, I ride an '86 Yamaha SRX-600. It's fun, it's a thumper, and almost as slow as my 318i in a straight line.

Suzuki GSX650F - Essentially a reworked, full faired Bandit
Pros: powerband, gearbox, not a sport bike, wind protection
Cons: simple construction, no frills suspension
                    08-current
                    Engine: I4 85hp/46tq
                    Fuel: injected 5g
                    Weight: 476/531
                    Suspension: preload/rebound & preload
Sound: Stock-quiet, raspy Modified; good midrange
                    Price range: 3500+

Honda F4i - Injected, less sport oriented CBR, many small tweaks vs CBR
Pros: reliability, sporty looks, sit down position, storage
Cons: poor MPG, brakes can be spongy, insurance
                    01-06
                    I4 103hp/44tq
                    Fuel: injected 4.8g
                    Weight: 370/440
                    Suspension: 3 way F/R
Sound: Stock-racy, but not loud Modified- deep, not raspy
                    Price range: 2800-3700

                    Suzuki SV650 - it's the go to starter bike that's not a 500cc
Pros: clutch/gear change, insurance, chassis design
Cons: corrosion, fork pitting, stock suspension
                    02-10
                    Engine: V Twin 73hp/47tq
                    Fuel: injected 02+ 4.5g
                    Weight: 368-386/437
                    Suspension: preload only F/R
Sound: Stock- very quiet, deep Modified- burbly, loud
                    Price range: 2000-3500+

                    Suzuki GS500F -
Pros: high MPGs, cheap insurance, gearbox

                    Suspension: ?/preload
Sound: Stock- lawnmower Modified- thumpy, cheap
                    Price range: 1500-3000

                    Honda VFR800 - sport touring
                    Pros: competent touring
                    Cons: heavy, insurance, VTEC issues
                    02-09 (08+ revised VTEC)
                    Engine: V4 104hp/55tq

How about a 5th gen vfr instead of the 6th. Competent tourer and very capable around the city bike.

This past January I had my CBR stolen right in front of my office. And just picked this up about 2 weeks ago. So far so in love!
