Why chrome or firefox? If you knew the first thing about browsers you'd know firefox and chrome lean towards more of free-base software, meaning they can actually be more manipulated and dangerous in terms of being infected with tracking cookies, spyware and malware etc than ie. It really doesn't matter you just have to watch what add-ons and plugins you use.

speaking from experience
Using IE = getting constant viruses, annoying "what would you like IE to do" question windows and getting your homepage perma set on Asian ladyboy porn from an infection.
so i now use firefox, and have no problems at all.
oh and my background. its bad ass on my 17.3 widescreen.
