What does this electrical symbol mean?

I know its a switch. But with three wires and a "+" "-" symbol?
Ma che cazzo state dicendo? :|

looks like a SPDT switch, with 3 positions. Maybe inline for a motor or something to change polarity, I'd guess.

Thats what I thought but wasnt sure because some of the symbols in our book are made up by the manufacturer I work for lol. Its an upper limit switch for a moving plane. Now that I think about how its supplies this makes sense.

That is not a standard automotive electrical symbol for a relay, nor a switch.

It is, however, normal voltage reversal: COMMON on the bottom, NC is "+", NO is "-".

Nah its not a relay. Its a barrel type switch. I was holding it in my hand when I was writing up the thread.

Would it be used by itself or usually parallel/series with something else?

              Luke nailed it.

It could be. It depends on the rest of the diagram really. What's this for/to?

The upper limit switch to a moving plane. It goes on a CNC laser system.

That is a prox switch. Don't put too much current through it, crispification will ensue.

IIRC, Blue brown and black wires right?

Oh, and depending on if its a PNP or NPN, different polarities on that black wire.

Where was the machine made? I'm guessing not Europe?

If they designed the limit switches correctly, it will be normally closed, until that axis hits the switch, and then it will be open. The thinking is that if there is a break in the wiring to the switch, it will trigger and "E-stop" to let you know and not destroy it'self.. Very important if the CNC uses the limit switches to "home".

Strange. Ah well, all of the crap I work on is German industrial stuff, always seems to use those color codes.

This IS a prox switch right? The barrel description and the schematic symbol correspond with that, but who knows.

Does anything physically need to touch the switch to trigger it? Or does the presence of a ferrous metal near the front of the barrel trip it?
