Never heard of Immortal Technique but listening to video clip above just didnt do it for me. Not feeling it.

Again, this is really a generational thing...i know some older dudes that like, actually love, Rakim, Kool G Rap, Slick Rick, etc...and say Jay, Biggie, Nas are just okay...then you have your younger generation that loves Kanye, Wayne, Gucci, Drake, etc...

Jay Z is best (hate it or love it). Some other solid rappers, Cormega, Mos Def, Black Thought (Roots), Jadakiss, Cypress Hill, Ghostface, Black Moon (wow, cant believe i forgot them), EPMD (another one)...Redman!

I'll just say this, overall, nothing was better than 90's hip hop.

Tupac was a poet. His songs spoke to many, even if they weren't pushers, etc.
I only have the tupac songs, that I feel make sense. Quite a few.
He went to high school with one of my uncles, quiet dude at best.

I was about to mention him too since nobody else had.

Black Moon (wow, cant believe i forgot them)
                            Shit, so did I!

So fucking smooth. That's how it's done kids.

Yup, you pretty much covered it right there. For new stuff, I only like underground, but I don't even know enough to rattle off a bunch of names. I just know what I like when I hear it.

This pop "rap" (notice I didn't say hip hop) we have in the mainstream now is a joke. Thanks to the two at the top of this post (and others) for getting that ball rolling.

I don't think anyone mentioned GZA, in my opinion one of the best rappers. Great beats, awesome flow.

Also gangstarr, they really got me into old-er hip hop. Going along with that, DJ premier.

                              Some of my other favorites:

                              Aesop Rock
                              Pete Rock and CL smooth
                              EPMD
                              Madvillain
                              Tribe Called Quest

and if I want a blast from the past then, Ultramagnetic MCs or Black Sheep
