The prayer room leads to an answer. My guess? Satanic rituals are more fun when you drive the knife into the flesh when their heart is still beating? Some early cultures ate still beating hearts too...

Preservation of food, with little to no electricity it would be hard to keep it edible. You don't want to kill too many and have a stack of rotting bodies, you'll waste the food as maggots will be all over them. That's why they contain them in containers/train cars.

Edit - Ha. I am Jack's same thought process. When Jack thinks about hunter problems, I do too. Or is it Jack thinks my thoughts?

Also "The Road" I hear the book is even more intense, don't read the plot if you want to watch it. I'd recommend.

I think drugs as well. I suspected it as soon as they offered Rick's group "a plate". If the girl serving it refers to it as a plate, cool. But something is off when everyone is saying exactly the same thing. " Let's get you a plate". Creepy.

Those fuckers are way too eager to feed strangers when everyone else is running around eating brains or playing survival of the most violent.

Def drugs. Like I said, nobody gets a hot plate of food that fast after the zombie apocalypse started what, 2-3 years ago at this point in the show?

The herding them is plan B, notice all of the bullet holes all over the buildings, herding them to exactly where they want them.
