    craigslist scammers

i've had a set of sram red shift/brake pods for sale for a while now (http://r3vlimited.com/board/showthre...light=sram+red), and not too long ago i got a bite on craigslist. initially the scammer said they wanted to come see the item, but "she" was asked to leave town quickly & requested pics instead. after sending pics the scammer confirmed her interest & said she would send a cashiers check. i requested a paypal transfer but she claimed not to have an account or know how to set it up. i just received a shady looking check in the mail for $1000 (i'm asking $400 for those of you who didn't check out the fs thread) which i ran the routing # number & it came up bunk. there's more shady details to the story, but in short; fuck you scammer!

i'm glad i dodged this bullet, anybody else have experiences like this and care to share stories or tips about craigslist scams?

When text is kinda generic, that should ring a bell.

You just have to be slightly less retarded than the retard scammers.

If you can't tell a scam by now, then I have a good friend who is a exiled Nigerian prince, heir to large sum of dollars in a frozen off-shore account that you may be able to lend your help in retrieving, and receive in turn for a gracious reward.

Shortly after I arrived to the US I had a drum set I was selling on Craigslist. When the scammer contacted me, it went similarly, except the guy had a kind of believable story.
I didn't know English that well at the time, but what was worse, I NEVER had any experience with checks. That was the first time I held a check in my hand, and my thinking was like "if the bank gives me money for it, it must be legit". Once again, I didn't know how checks worked, I didn't know it took time to verify if there were funds behind them.
          His story:
He is buying musical instruments for a new HS in New York, and there is a semi truck going around the country to pick them up. He had a check made out already, and I was to send the excess through Western Union to the truck driver for the shipping for all the instruments. He asked me to help him out, but I did think it was sketchy. But when my bank gave me the cash for the check, I thought all right, I'll help him.
A week after I learned the bank subtracted the money from my account because the check bounced.
Now I know how checks work.
Now I know to wait a couple weeks after I cash a check.
It was a learning experience for sure, but I could've learned from losing less money though:/
How much was it? Exactly as much I bought my E30 for.
