Not like the umbrella genre of metal is where you turn for uplifting and cheery lyrics anyway.

plus, who even listens to metal lyrics anyway

I for one do pay attention to lyrics, because they should have some sort of meaning behind them. Cool guitar riffs are... well... cool, but I think some thinking behind the lyrics goes a long way too. A contest for seeing who is the 'brutalist' or most evil is cool and all, but it truly means nothing. Chuck says it perfect in this interview:

fair, i was mostly joking about the last bit. I think the Whitechapel has meaning, just not what josh was saying. But in any event, i dont pay as much attention to them as i listen to metal for guitar and drums primarily. Just what i enjoy out of it, i even like instrumental stuff like Cloudkicker

I do agree. I mean that is some of the main reason why I like this type of music to. Screaming riffs and gear that normally sounds half way decent. I can't really help the lyrics thing. I have been listening to punk rock and youth crew type stuff since I was a little kid, so I have been immersed in lyrics with meaning for a long time.

I agree with both of you,i am old school (im 42). I have been listening to rock /metal/stake punk/thrash metal/hard core since the tender age of 5. My dad started me out on The doors/steppenwolf/three dog night/CCR and so on. I listen to the songs for the lyrics and guitar solos and double bass drums and bass solos/drum solos. I really cant get that much into metal now a days. It all sounds the same to me and i have been listening to music for about 37 years now. Maybe its just the generation gap between 70's 80's 90's and now 2010 i dont know. Not trying to bash down on this thread and dont get me wrong on this,i love metal to DEATH !!!!!!!!!!!! Nothing can take its place.

I do not mind triggered drums sometimes (Pantera), but As I Lay Dying never does it for me.

I'm a guitar player, I don't listen to it for the drums, i'm listening to them for the guitar parts an the general song layouts, I like them quite a bit. Fear Factory currently has Gene Hoglan who is a drumming madman, its nuts.

As for Chimaira, definitely a favorite, Resurrection didn't leave my CD player for about 4 months, not joking. The beginning of "Six" with the creepy theramin sounds send chills down my spine everytime I hear it. Some reason the beginning reminds me of the movie Cloverfield, couldn't tell you why.

Cannot wait for this. So many sick bands. Everyone who goes to this, make sure you check out my friend's band Nails. Kind of an Entombed meets Discharge type of thing. So good.
