    Thanksgiving.

It just dawned on me that I would much rather eat a nice sized filet mignon or perhaps a well prepared piece of fish than any traditional Thanksgiving Day dish. I have never sat down in a nice restaraunt and salivated over a menu meal that includes baked turkey/ ham. Not once. Ever. What the hell is so special about turkey or any traditional dish served during thanksgiving?

you sr. have never had well cooked thanksgiving meals then. the stuffing my mom makes is to die for, and turkey when cooked well (not dry like a 100 year old waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles) is really good especially with some orange cranberry sauce! potatoes and salty thick rich gravy!
    3 kinds of pies!

        California, MD

Come have some wings and other finger stuff, watch football, then fried turkey, freakin' good sweet potatoes, etc. If you're not satisfied, I'll buy you a tank of gas.

I do see what you mean, I am German so turkey is just the tip. I have been to a few other houses to share in thanks giving. It sucked hard, I was like REALLY? Where is the rest of the food?

I don't know why you would waste a good filet by overcooking it to medium rare ????

Let me guess... you're one of those blue orderers aren't you?

I'll eat rare any day only if I am cooking it though.

not familiar with the term, but *maybe*? I'll agree that I'd only go full rare if at a reputable establishment, or at home where I know the source of the meat.

Blue is still cool center, basically a cold steak... Nothing to write home about. Rare done right is the only way to go. Otherwise medium rare at most if you lack faith in the chefs judgement/skills. Good meat should need nothing but its own flavor, and perhaps a dash of salt to really bring it out.

As for thanksgivong traditional... Not a huge fan. Honey ham sucks, I prefer salted. Turkey is lackluater at best... Had thanksgiving with mexicans once... Best turkey day ever, so mucb badass tamales!

Ill be most thankful to be playing gran turismo 5 after enduring festivities with my girlfriends dad and step mother...

I always goto my uncle's in Socal and we do shit right! Traditional TG dishes as well as tamales, fish, wings, and epic deserts. Shit be crackin' with food! And you can choose to eat the traditional meal or just go balls out like i always do and eat a lil(lot) of everything.

I get exactly what the OP is saying.

Would I rather have a normal T-Day than Lamb Kebobs from the incredible Greek joint across town? I don't know...but the food I put on the table on T-Day is absolutely flawless and spectacular...and honors tradition in my home of giving thanks for being graced with a wonderful life.

Its tradition man. I love nothing more than good family traditions. I also love a great thanksgiving dinner prepared by mom. You can have steak any day.
