Aside from the Mac and Snap-on ones which we all know have proven their worth, what are some other brands to look into for a good 1/2" impact? The Mac guy at our shop has one with "quiet technology" on sale for $410, so I'll get that if I can't find one for cheaper that's comparable with a good warranty.

I bought a decently good craftmans when I bought my air compressor a few years ago. When I was buying tools for school I got another impact with everything, it was a bluepoint. It was just a rebrand of the craftsman I already had, but much cheaper.
Edit:
ingersoll rand makes some pretty wicked good impactsRollin' with a GeistkuchenComment

I have this one for about 6 years. I haven't used it much in the past 2. I have it rebranded as a Craftsman. Best gun ever.

IR titaniums are the shit, I have it in 3/8" and routinely take off wheels with it when the 1/2" is out of reach. For 1/2" I have an IR quiet, got it for $80ish lightly used on ebay and it hasn't let me down. Taken off every crank bolt I've thrown at it...one of them took about a minute but it didn't lose.
Mine's red but model # rings a bell.

I have IR ti guns, but if you're on a budget I have heard really good things about the aircat brand. My buddy has one of the HF Earthquake guns and it is really powerful but super loud!Comment
