He was a tig welder for AMS (worlds fastest awd evo) for a while. He built everything on the car about 6 years ago before he worked for AMS (sheet metal intake, tubular exhaust manifold). But now hes redoing it and its going to be bonkers. He made those flares himself with molding clay and then laser scanned them. Tubular suspension with new geometry, mini tubs, new intake manifold, now building the bottom and top end. Here's a link to his build thread, it is epic.
That's the problem. 924 were shit. 928 were big shit. It only got better with the mid-engine cars... I have tracked my M3 with other 944 Turbo track prepared cars. They are quick in straight line. But handle very poorly in corners (at least compared to an M3).
If you had to pick one, which one would you choose? And why?

That, plus the fact that the E30 M3 was never available in 4-door sedan/saloon format.
Having owned and driven multiple examples of both the 190E 2.3-16 and the E30 (including the M3), I would say the E30 definitely has the edge in terms of handling. The difference gets even bigger once you start modding the suspensions since there is a ton of aftermarket support for the E30 M3, but practically none at all for the Benz. What's worse, you really can't fit decent rubber under the stock fenders of a 16v: we're struggling to squeeze 245mm in there, but it's not easy.
In stock form, the Benz is better under braking, has more high-speed stability, and significantly better aero. It also has a slight edge in terms of mid-range torque, but a lot of that has to do with the short gearing (Euro M3's with the close-ratio dog-leg gearbox were closer matched to the 16v in terms of gearing). In pretty much all other respects, the E30 M3 comes out ahead.
I own a C-class 280 (w202) automatic with minor upgrades. Before I bought the current e30, I was looking for a Benz to track. One option was getting another C, cheap, bone stock and doing everything myself. Problem is these cars are well reinforced and pretty heavy, that could be dealt with, but the main problem really is aftermarket parts. The engines are great. The m104 280/320/36 amg are pretty much M/S50 equivalents. Same amazing durability, similar power, weight, setup, easy to work on.
So I was thinking about getting a 190. Cosworth wasn't an option because they are pretty expensive (though about half an e30 m3) and hard to find in good shape. Main problem is again aftermarket parts, but especially the fact that if you blow the engine, you're pretty screwed unless you some people who have worked on them (a lot).
So I was thinking about doing a DOHC swap, which is also very similar to the e30 swap, but it was very hard to find info and I don't think I could do it myself. So I wound up getting the 30 and don't regret one minute of it.
I have never driven a 190 on track but they do handle well. Even the W202 has great handling, all they need are stronger sways (Eibach). The 190csw had LSD standard, many W202s had ASD, which is a hydraulic LSD that automatically locks fully upon slip. This is awesome (and can be fabbed to the 190) because you can add a hydraulic level (like the H-ebrake), so you have full diff lock whenever you want, and these ASDs can be bought pretty cheap. Not too many people know they're that easy to mod.
