those of ya'll used to the snow... is it essential to put snow tires on? or will regular tires work with reasonable driving and not terrible snow?
It's snowing

City of fairfax got about 3-4 inches overall. I feel sorry for the idiots who aren't bothering to shovel and just walking over it....have fun with ice, shitheads!
as long as they're not ultra high performance summer tires or something...pretty much. simple plan when driving somewhere is to accelerate, turn and stop gently and smoothly, as simple as that sounds. You don't have to slow down to a crawl just cause there's a little snow out, but you do have to be a little carefulthose of ya'll used to the snow... is it essential to put snow tires on? or will regular tires work with reasonable driving and not terrible snow?
and, AS ALWAYS, watch out for other, stupid drivers and slick-looking patches
keep our head on and you'll be okLast edited by imsotyerred; 12-16-2010, 06:18 PM.Comment

I'm not driving my e30 this winter, but damn i do wish i was. It's just too much fun!
Also I got around perfectly last year with just all seasons, I have heard that snows make a huge difference but I didn't need them, and we got a shit ton of snow last year.Comment

Once you try snow tires, you'll never go back. If by regular tires you mean aggressive all-seasons, sure, you can get by. If by regular tires you mean bald ass all seasons, then I'll pass you just like I do all the other FWD fools that think they can make it up 20° slopes in the slick stuff.
Once it gets down below 40F, my summer tires really start to suck (just like the mfg promises they will). If the road is dry, they heat up enough to not suck after 5 minutes or so, but it's still evident that they prefer warmer temps. If it's wet out, they're a disaster.i put my snows on my rx8 2nd weekend of december. its done well the past few years. last weekend i got lazy.
paid the price today. fucking scary coming home. nearly bit it quite a few times. tc/dsc wasnt doing anything helpful. i changed my tires when i got home. in the snow. it sucked. but i could easily tell why my toyo t1rs suck so bad in the cold. they were hard as rock. you know those old car tires, solid rubber? yeah...
my snow rims dont have the flushness my summers do. 17x7+42 vs 18x8 +35. :/ we. im happy my blizzaks are on.

yeah, its why i havent had any issues until the snow started coming down this week. and my commute is generally at speeds of 75-80mph which keeps the tires pretty nicely warm.AWD > RWDComment

snow?
Have I mentioned I love my driveway? I can hit 50mph in the snow.
