Ice Skating...

I went for the first time tonight, it was honestly better than roller blades.
And yes, I fell once. Better than I thought I was going to do!
Anyone else go often?

I dont go anymore. Used to play hockey growing up, but my lower body falling through a fishing hole located on the outskirts scared the living hell outta me. Haven't gone since.

hockey's pretty big in buffalo, myself and most of my friends have been skating since we could walk. i play hockey 3x a week usually.

there's an outdoor rink downtown on main st (rotary rink) and they just built another at delaware park for open skate. darn good date idea.

we bring nets to those rinks and play at night sometimes

My girl has been trying to get me to go for the last 4 years. I gave in and I wish I did a long time ago. It is better than blading ten fold. And people go down SO MUCH!!! I was laughing all night.

At Accord: what is a good brand of skates to buy? I have big wide feet(14 is US)

different skates are made for different foot types. different widths in toe box, mid, heel, different arches, etc. unsure what's available in your size, check your local hockey shop or hockeymonkey.com

Do it! if you can roller blade you can ice skate. The ice just bites into the sides of the blades in an eerie manner. And if you lean forward on the tips you slide around in a smooth glass like feeling. It is not like the friction you get on a wooden floor. You just glide, it is quite awesome.

Only n00bie tip I know of was that if you are tense you are going down. All I did was was pretend I was roller blading like all the years I have been doing it.

I fell only once because of the smaller skates, after I changed out for a size bigger I had no issues the rest of the night. And watch for morons blasting onto the ice from the entrances!

How do you like the Nikes? I was looking at those last night. And I know what you mean on the difference. On roller skates you can be dumb, the ice will put you on your ass really quick. Rollers seems to stick to the wooden floor with the resin/rubber wheels. But the ice and metal blades have a feeling like slipping on a sheet of ice when walking.

These are wicked lightweight which only matters if you play. Anything at Dicks or Sports Authority will work okay if you're just trying to get laid. Just make sure you get them sharpened even out of the box.
