Just overall power I guess. I want something that will accelerate enough on highways and around town. When I go on snowboarding trips, it's gonna be loaded down with people and gear, so power would be nice.
Are either engine's easier to work on or they just about the same?

Depends on your definition of power I guess; the only older Audi I'd even call quick is the S4. The 1.8 and 2.8 feel about as fast as the 325e and 325i, respectively.Leave a comment:

Seems like the 1.8T's are more available, specially in 5 speed's. I don't plan on doing much modding at all, maybe a chip, and other very small mods. I wanna keep it pretty stock, just looking for a solid, reliable car. I've heard the 2.8's are great engines too. I've also heard that the 1.8T's are notorious for building excessive slug in the engines too.B5's [96-01] are awesome cars. the 1.8t and S4 are better to mod but the 2.8 is a beast reliability wise [specially the 12v, those things are tanks]. 2.8 30V Quattro 5spd would be ideal for a nice reliable car, then drop a S/C and your all set :)
But if you want to mod, then def go with the S4, you can get a clean one these days for a reasonable price and they're fun as hell [even with just chip/exh]. maintenance is a bitch tho, specially on the turbos [in which case you go K04 ;)]
Is there a big power difference between the 1.8T's and 2.8's?
I want something with decent power, so that's why I'm leaning towards the 2.8.Leave a comment:

I heard they have awful turbos that need rebuilding after low amount of miles. I had a 99 a4 1.8t fwd it's was nice but I couldn't even get to the thermostat without moving the power steering I said fuck it and sold it a week later. My friend who works on BMW, Merc, VW, and Volvo actualy wouldn't let me even bring it into there shop because of their horrible experiences with Audi. So just know that they're pain in the ass to work on!Leave a comment:

Mine is a '93 with the aforementioned 2.8L V6. 300k on the odometer and pushing hard with nothing but oil changes.Leave a comment:

Lol, what year is yours? Been a good car to you?
Yeah, I thought about getting an ix and putting on H&R sports, but it would just defeat the purpose of an AWD I think. Plus it's hard to find a decent ix that isn't rotted out with rust. I want something reliable that I can use in the snow and take on decent trips to go snowboarding and looks nice.Leave a comment:

I've had my Audi for a few years, the thing tears through more white powder than Tony Montana. Unstoppable in the snow.

I know this isn't the right forum for it but I've always had good luck with R3v so I'm giving it a shot.
Guy's coming to pick up the E30 tomorrow and I'm looking into stepping something different.
I will always love the look of E30's, but I've just never been a fan of the ix, sit a little too high for my taste. I know it sounds retarded, but lowering a E30 is probably the best thing you can do, performance & looks wise. Would kind of defeat the purpose of lowering a AWD car because I plan on using it in the snow.
Always like the look of the B5 Audi A4's (97-01) and an considering purchasing one.
I've heard good and bad about these cars, looking for a 2.8, 5 speed Quattro. I would settle with a 1.8t for the right price. Looking for something around 150k, the lower the better of course.
I want some opinions from former and current Audi owners on the overall opnions of these cars.Last edited by 91 318is; 12-21-2010, 05:06 PM.Tags: None
