    First introduced in 2003, Volvo's S60 R boasted Haldex AWD mated to a 300 PS (221 kW; 296 hp) / 400 N·m (300 ft·lbf) inline-5. The 2004–2005 models came with a 6-speed manual transmission, or an available 5-speed automatic which allowed only 258 lb·ft (350 N·m) torque in 1st and 2nd gears. The 2006–2007 models came with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. The new 6-speed automatic transmission allowed the full torque of 295 lb·ft (400 N·m) in all gears.

I didn't realize 996's were in that range. (edit) re: non-turbos. Oh. If I were considering a P car I'd look into an older P car and go nuts making it a widebody insane-eat-your-children car but then it's not going to be much fun in traffic and won't be comfortable (see Lotus remark.)

I don't know, an E46 M3 would probably fit the bill quite nicely and I think you're on you're way to deciding on it.

Every car has a compromise somewhere but as a DD if you've liked the way an E46 drives and serves you, go for it, it seems you're leaning towards it.

Get one sub 20k with enough papers/love, pay it off within a year or so if applicable and bam you're ahead of most people who buy their new overpriced cars that aren't worth much more by the time they roll off the lot and depreciate. Assuming it's taken care of you're likely to have a fun, capable, and great car for the money. I can't think of many 2 door sedans for the money that compete. I love M Coupes but for a DD it's better to have a backseat.

    So Danny what's the update?

Nah, different one. The one on azbmw was an 04/05, redish, and salvage, but only $8k. It was just prior to me being in the position to get one.

This one did come from Tucson though, I got lucky.

    I'd go with the e46 m3 personally.

For me it'd be a toss up between a clean 996 and an M3. On one hand, the M3 with some visual mods is absolute sex on wheels, but the 996 is so clean and perfect right out of the box.

I wish I had your dilemma here: picking between some exciting exotic cars :D
