I've driven two e46 m3's and a 996 911 carerra, the Porsche feels like a race car in comparison. Handling is amazing but it's not fast.

About 6 years ago I saw an ad for a 1984 Datsun with "no windshield and a homemade sunroof." A Datsun with the factory windshield delete and the home-style sunroof option will get you p****y like a bag of meowmix.

100% Stock Here, yet I still love this thing.
Easily can get these at the lowest end of your budget with very low miles.

I just came from an 04 audi a4 1.8tQ6spd which I picked up with 30k miles. It was very comfortable, great interior, and with the mods it was pretty quick. In the year and a half i had it i spent around $3k on some mods/lots of maint.(thats doing all the work myself) I cant see anyone suggesting an audi as having owned one.
I dunno if you are anything like me but the main reason i sold it was because i missed rwd.
c5 z06 would be good fun, plenty reliable. fast stock and can get very fast relatively cheaply. same goes for the 1st gen cts-v.
I havent had much experience with e46 m3's but my friend has a 2001 with 130,000+ miles and he beats on it and hasn't had a problem yet
hope any of this helps

Thing only weighs what an e36 weighs and it comes with 3 pedals.

B5 Audi S4 6sp (can be had for 7-10g's) Stasis Coilovers, refresh block, put the 2.8 A4 heads on it, go stage3+ and get a good clutch. Very reliable, plenty of AWHP, 4 doors, won't rattle apart like an EVO or STI

I'm curious of the income of these people with M5s. I want one but I'm not sure if it's a smart idea to get one until I start raking in a bit more dough.

Danny, I have a E39 M5, And its not for the faint of heart, Maintenance is insane. But if you are interested, Come by and test drive mine. It isnt the fastest car (12.7 in the 1/4, and 4.4 0-60) but it handles great and is beyond comfortable.

Danny, I'm not going to read 10 pages of retards suggesting cars or criticizing cars they've never sat in - but if you're financing a car without a warranty - as I imagine is the case with the e46 m3 - you're making a mistake. Why not just buy a cash car like an e39?

Can't run the supercharger, unless its CARB legal?
Besides, I think I'm going to build another e30 and pick up a Cherokee or something as well. Seems to me to be the better decision.

And for Danny, e46m3+ESS VT1-445 kit will put a smile on your face every single day you drive it. With the budget you have it is completely doable and you will have a fantastic daily driver that will actually drive better all around than a stock m3.
I've been lucky enough to become close friends with a few of the employees at ESS so I have first hand experience installing their kits, as well as driving and road testing their cars. I actually had the pleasure of driving one of their VT550 z4m's from AZ to Cali last year for Bfest, and I have never had a more fun road trip.
If and when the time comes and you have any questions or interest, shoot me a PM and I can get you in touch with the right people.
