    Since you have the CD Key, you could go on TPB or similar sites and download the install disc. You need to find one that has not been cracked. When you buy windows you are buying a license, not the CD.

    Personally I would use linux over XP unless you need to run windows only programs, and it doesn't sound like you do.

      is this a name brand pc, the install os/drivers might be on hidden partition on the hdd ...you could try rebooting pc and hitting del, f12, f1, or f2 keys to see if a menu comes up to reload pc to factory settings,.

      since you do have legal key, you can also try contacting the manufacturer to purchase the cd(s), it shouldn't be more than $20... or try and find a copy of the cd, but keep in mind not all discs are the same (your key may not work with just ANY xp cd,, it has to be the same version and from the same date range).
