    Honda OBD1-OBD2 Question.

    So,

I have searched this on Honda Forums and can't seem to get any good answers. Also, I have seen how smart R3V is with al types of cars, so I am throwing this question out there for you HONDA guys.

My fiance has a '00 Civic EX, blew up the D-series, had her friends install a '95 B18C1. This was back in '08. The car runs like shit now.

They used the '00 ECU and wiring harness, some ghetto distibutor, and it is throwing CEL's for knock sensor, and 02 sensor.

So my question is, how do I properly switch this OBD1 engine to OBD2b?
I would like it to pass NJ inspection, and I belive going to OBD1 is not legal.

Thanks in advance for any input.

This would be a better question for grassrootsmotorsports forum.

You might want to double check on the ecu or just maybe it could need a o2 and knock sensor, just sayin.

I dont think OBD1 D series motors have knock sensors. So there's your answer.

Edit: Just realized you went from D series to B series.
So it sounds like they took an Integra LS motor and dumped it into the Civic. I cant remember the details of the swap, but you're going to need to add a knock sensor if you ever want that thing to pass emissions. I cant remember the process. If there even is one. But I'd imagine the OBD1 and OBD2 blocks are pretty simliar and you could retro fit one. You will most certainly need to appease the ECU and give it data by tracking down each sensor and making sure it goes to a sensor that works.
As far as the o2 sensor, not sure. Sounds like a bang up job as far as engine installations go though. Wouldnt be surprised if the O2 sensor isnt even connected. And if it is connected, is it working? Good news is that its a Honda, so its easy to work on and understand.

Edit again: Every time I re-read your original post, I see new info lol. So it was running properly before, but not now? And why wouldnt they use a proper B series harness and ECU???
Too many variables now. Head hurts. Havent thought of this in years. Bye.

To properly have a obd2-obd1 swap you need a jumper harness for the ECU and you need the distributer from a obd2 B18c1 GSR.
since it is a 00' EX you may need the gauge cluster from an Si also for the Tach/RPM Signal.

Heres a link for some tech stuff to help you out.

I would've recommended putting the correct motor in the car.
