Is that only hosting the content of the home page and stuff? If so, that doesn't seem like much work, is it?

Its nowhere near as much work as it had before, however it allows us to scale at a much steeper rate without having to worry about server load.

Whenever a request comes in the server will start another PHP process to allow the request to complete. This can actually cause quite a CPU workout. Now that the database is on its own box the server can handle the requests faster, and allow the database server to handle the database.
