    I need a netbook/cheap laptop for school

I pretty much just need it to browse R3v and write papers. So my question is, has anyone done any research or have bought one recently that can give me an idea or direction to go. I'm looking to spend about 300-500. Cheaper the better, but quality performance is also key, so best of both worlds? lol Thanks in advance.
Looking for a 3.46 or lower LSD. Lets make a deal.
    LSx e36TI coming soon

I just went through this, although was willing to spend more.

HP has some good stuff right now. Highly rated in Consumer Reports. You could get a very nice basic laptop at the top end of your range.

a huge problem with that laptop is how small it is. a 15" screen on a laptop is about right.

That's because those are netbooks. ;)

I got a Compaq (HP) netbook from Best Buy for $180 on black Friday. I love it. Used it for school and it worked perfectly. Now it's pretty much replaced my crappy desktop as the DD computer.

Yes. This. Lets hear how valid your comment is. Im sure your isolated incident will directly describe every computer Dell makes company-wide.

if you're only going to use it for school and web surfing. buy preowned. in fact buy mine. I baby mine but my current job requires me to use a desktop for horsepower so now its just collecting dust.

I was actually looking at an HP mini, that and the Acer Aspire one. I have an acer (aspire 5670) already for my laptop but this thing has had it.

I've never heard of asus eee, do you have any personal use with one or a friend? For some reason whenever I follow what bloggers say or what seems great in geek mags they always blow up in my face.

10.1" screen doesn't bother me a bit (standard netbook screen), plus the smaller the screen the easier it will be to lug around with all my books.

heh, I actually have 3 or 4 Laptops im trying to get rid of. All of them are missing one piece, whether it be a hard drive, a battery, or a stick of ram.

I just really want a new one, one that I wont have to worry about losing my work on or turning off on me before I save my papers.
