The 24-70 will be helpful with its wider aperture, but a little limiting with its shorter zoom length. I would still go with the 24-70 though. Just get closer to the action.

24-70 for sure. On crop it may not be wide enough for concerts, is there something like a 17-50 2.8? I know tamron makes a great one in Nikon mount.

P.S. Did you use a gradient on the blur for the tilt shift? Looks slightly abrupt to me, but I do love me some tilt shift effect photos.

I'm also not very familiar with tilt shifts, so perhaps you have the ability to control how abrupt the transition is, maybe that was taken with a tilt shift.

Yeah canon makes a 16-35 f2.8L and a 17-40 f4L (half the price of the 16-35) and a number of EF-S wide angle lenses, but the EF-S's are for crop bodys only and I dont know if I want to invest into that. 17-40 on my 7d will be around 28mm equavilant so that's not very wide but if I choose to get a 5d mk III later it will be very wide.

Yeah, I realize that. I just don't think that if you're right in front of the stage 24 is quite wide enough.

But it sounds like you have a plan so carry on. I don't shoot Canon but I've used the 5di, 1diii, 5dii, 16-35L, 17-40L, 24-70L, 70-200L2 and its all great stuff. Their inexpensive (relatively) nice primes are what I like about canon.

Tamron makes a 17-50 2.8 VC and non VC. I have the VC version and it's really nice. Hunts in low light, so maybe search for something that doesn't search as much. Hell my 35 F/2 is a really nice lens and that might be something to look into.

Onto my shot. I hate you. You always call me on the stuff I notice but forget to fix or just say screw it. I was going to fix the blur start/stop point but I went and got a few steps ahead of myself before I remembered to fix it. Here is the tutorial I use. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1kVwFYZwHE

Thanks for checking out my stuff and that's cool you catch the stuff that is obvious to photographers. :D

Hahaha. My bad man... just sayin'

The whole point of sharing is learning I think. I like feedback of all kinds (though usually use a photo forum) so I kinda think everyone is the same way...

Fun to see your images in here though.

I haven't ever used an umbrella seriously.

But I found the best deal was on amazon. I use a cheap stand.

IT's a cheap stand, it should be exactly what you expect.

It's not extra stable, it's not extra tall, and it's not air cushioned. But it holds a light in the air just fine.
