I just don't see why so many people think that because a front engine Porsche isn't a true Porsche. I mean ya of course there most known for rear engine and thats whats most common but there front engine cars have been great. Alot of the older ones had problems with the dead wight of the rear engine making them want to spin out and hard to control and the front engines were a break through pretty much with the 50/50 wight distribution. And of course there front engines give use poor people a chance to own a Porsche :p

I've never driven a 928, only an older, 78ish, 911. And some newer stuff.

One of my coworkers has a 356, but he won't let me drive it. When he pulls it out of winter storage, I'll continue to try though.

944s and 928s are bad ass... Oddly enough, if you talk to the guys who own and drive these cars, most of them will tell you that the 928 is the more reliable option. They are actually really well done. Porsche's first try at a water cooled production V8 and they nailed it. It's too bad parts are stupid expensive or I'd own one.

BimmerTim - if you drove a late 70's or early 80's 911 back to back with the same vintage 928S, you'd probably change your mind. The 928S's were faster, handled better, and were better built...

Touche. I, for whatever reason, had it in my head that the C4 was transaxle. I don't know why. My old roommate even bought a T56 from a C4 for his Olds manual swap.

They drive really well, but they were originally designed by Audi, and it shows in how the car is built and how terrible it is to work on. I will never do a clutch job in a 944 ever again.

Also, the BMW comparison, they didn't sell/make that many AWD E30s. They killed it for the E36, and then brought it back for the E46. Now we all love AWD E30s.

I don't know. When I think of the core of Porsche, I think of wide MR or RR cars, not FR. It might just be me. And again, I'm not discrediting the FR cars, because I know they are fun and great cars.

Tim, You said a porsche isnt a porsche in your mind unless its a rear motor/trans vehicle correct? I was stating that alot of people didnt like the fact of the newer vette's are front engine/rear trans layout and people say that they are not real vette's either. And alot of other stuff as well besides that.

I see where your going, but why? Thats like saying a 325ix isnt a BMW because its AWD... in a way. It was made by porsche, so why would it not be a real porsche? Its a different porsche.
