I concur. Besides expensive regular maintenance diesel trucks have a lot of big ticket items under the hood that WILL fail. Cummins injection pumps are big bucks, like $1200-1800. Same goes with the Power Strokes- injection computers, high pressure oil pumps, turbos, all $1000+ parts. They're also way harder on tires and front suspension components.

Unless you're doing a lot of heavy towing I'd go gas.

              You're and idiot....

Since the guy dont need to be pulling a house and dont have the funds to buy a diesel, I dont see why people are still suggesting one...

I own a 96 ram excab 2wd 318 5speed with a 3.55 rear with 230,000miles. I get 15mpg with mixed driving (50/50 city/highway) and thats usually at 75+ on the interstate running. I dont drive it very easy either...

Yeah, not really towing much. My main reason behind buying a pick-up is the bed.
Have a bunch of bicycles, car parts, lumber, and stuff that I'd be needing to move around. Also want to take it off road sometimes.

Sport package= Painted grill bumpers and a set of decals. And fog lights iirc... You can get a 4x4 in any model. And by the way you are talking, i'd look for a 4x4.

edit: and for some reason, when they went from excab to that quad cab or whatever you want to call it. Theres less room in the back seat of the quad cab.

Jason, the 4x4 is really what I want - I will search around the state until I find one in my range.

You'll find one. They are nice trucks. I dont think they made many 4x4's with the 360 5speed (5.9) I've only seen one. Most of them out there are automatics anyways. But the 318 (5.2) automatic 4x4 maybe a little under powered for what it is. And will drink gas just the same as the 360. But i guess find what you like and take it for a test drive and see how you like it!

I'd try to find one with the 360 (5.9L) V8 if you can.

Get the V8, the V6s have the same fuel economy but less power. Supposedly you have to work the 6 so hard it ends up using the same gas as the bigger motor anyways.

You'll end up paying the difference in cost of a gas and a diesel in, well, gas. And maintenance, because diesels are undoubtedly more reliable and last way longer. Diesel or nothing IMO. Well worth the extra moneys.
