Producing Diesel from sun, water, and CO2?

I read this earlier I wonder what the "CATCH" is, there is always a catch

A photosynthetic microbe that eats organic material and poops out oxygen and diesel fuel. I can't think of a catch.

However, I am predicting that in over the next few years, Fox News will slowly seep into the Jesus fearing subconscious that altering one of god's creatures to provide fuel for our society is 'playing god'.

If "big oil" doesn't come up with a more legitimate 'catch' in the next few years, we should be good to go.

the only 'bad' thing I can think of is that gasoline prices might go up. which is bad if you're like most of the people on this board and like driving older cars.

I am better real estate/Oceanic space is prolly going to kill this. I am better it going to take HUGE expanses of space to make this happen, and the product will be very little fuel per acre used.

anyway, watch the second video. they claim this has a very fuel per acre density. dude claims 10% of new mexico could be used to produce all of the us' fuel needs. and it can be produced in the desert. which is great.

At first glance they appear to be the same, but the two are very different and the website for the company points out many things that make them different. The most obvious is the difference between Biodiesel and Diesel.

It is planned to produce 15,000 gallons of diesel per year and 25,000 of ethanol per year per acre, apparently they are already at 10,000 gallons of ethanol per year per acre at the lab level. Also it isn't like Biodiesel where you have to mix it with diesel still especially in cold weather, it is straight diesel.

The only catch I can see is that they keep mentioning it isn't toxic and there is no chance of it "escaping" into the environment, which leads me to believe they are lying and it is going to kill us all.
