I have 40GB all encoded at 320kbps in MP3 format, so I likely have MORE music then you, just at a lower quality. ;-)

I also stopped using my Zune because of the software, it is amazingly terrible.

My Zune would be perfect if I could use Winamp with it. Everything about it is perfect except for the software that you HAVE to use.

Zune is nice player... no support. If you want apps, go home

iPod is nice. I have 30g 5th gen video for sale. NOT ONE SCRATCH, though I buffed the back to make it all scratched in the same direction, I did that on purpose. The thing has not screen scratch either... always was in a case. ANybody want it? It does have the headphone jack one channel problem that the 5th gen is famous for though.

          ^ sorry to threadjack.

i personally love the ipod. ive used about 5 other devices and i cant get into them. the ipod is so fluent and works. i dont how ever like apple and what they believe in. it cost me 85$ for a lap top cord that cost them 2$ to make. i mean they can latterly put there emblem on a piece of dog crap and people will buy it. but the ipod is a very well crafted device. ive never had problems or ever damaged one ive had a B/w 20g then a 30g video and now a 32g touch.

                I have 200 days of music ~ 200gigs (guess this means 1gig = 24 hours of Mp3)

I am with you I wouldnt buy an ipod either, they expect you to buy a new one every year

Personally I just use my android phone that has a 32gig micro sd chip for on the go, and i have a 64gig flash drive hooked up to my Pioneer MVH 8200BT in the E30

I have a 120 ipod classic. This is the older on hat has an actual hard drive. According to a few people I have spoken to at apple support, this is actually better for music recovery should something happen and is more reliable then the other type.

I bought it as a display model when circuit city pulled out of AZ years ago. It spends most of its time plugged into car so it stays constantly charging ecept when I take it out for the gym. It is old enough that I suspect I will need a battery soon though.

I bet you could pick one up cheap as it is not the newest, flashy-est, touch screen. I has always worked pretty we'll for me and with the 1500 or so cds I have ripped on it as well as downloads, I have only used 25% of the memory.

Dude, just get a used 5.5g iPod and start hacking.
Wish i still had mine because it was perfect for holding all my music, lasted forever(replacement parts are cheap too; craigslist) and way easier to use than anything. I sold it 2 years ago for $150. Now theyre probably way cheaper bc of all the new shit and you can get great value for your money for a great used iPod that nobody wants.

That's the key, nobody that normally buys all the new apple shit wants the real ipods (not classic). With that said, I have an iPhone 4, got it through work for free and now I'm sold. If I had to spend my own money then I'd go a different way but now I'm not so sure.

                          Keep it slideways!!

Hahahahaha, 548.23 Gigs of music and counting!! (80% or more in MP3)

I'm the OCD type collector. So I have absolute complete discographies of almost every band on my hard drive. My music HDD is a 7200rpm 1TB Drive that's about to be given RAID support for backup. (told myself I'd go RAID after I hit 500GBs which was yesterday).

iTunes has difficulty running that much music but once I add the RAID HDD that should significantly decrease my search and streaming time.

After I hit 250 Gigs I found large capacity mp3 players pretty much useless. I'm addicted to my 4Gb 1st gen iPod Nano. I can grab just about any playlist off my iTunes and run out the door.

What really grinds my gears, is that I hate Apple's way of doing business and how they and their customers act like such allegiant asshats. But unfortunately, Apple makes the best MP3 player out there. The fact that Microsoft is killing off the Zune brand is really a kick in the pants because I thought it was a great device that deserved more recognition.
Why not just pick up a used android phone and use one of the bajillion music apps that you like and you'll have WiFi and the battery should last a long time JUST playing music and surfing the web. Micro SD cards are pretty cheap these days. $50 for cheap Android phone. then $80 for the biggest SD card you can find (64GB I think its the biggest on the market). There you go.
