Working on finding my little niche in life, where I feel like I am contributing, and doing something worthwhile.. I am struggling with this...
I am thinking of opening my own shop with my brother... But then I have thoughts of going back to school, getting a degree and finding a job...
Basically I DO NOT like working for other people, especially people who I think are less intelligent than myself... Wrenching on cars my whole life seems.... Well, like I am not really doing anything important, and I dont wanna look back and feel like I didnt contribute much to this world...
Starting my own shop would be difficult no doubt... But there is potential to make pretty good $$$ and eventually I would want to move into just being the boss, and pursuing other money making business ventures.
I have seriously worked a lot of different jobs in different industries.
I started off striping cars when I was 14 and then started as the grunt @ a local shop.
I taught snowboarding @ a local ski resort, and worked @ a retail ski shop.
I was in the sign business for 3 years,
I was the book keeper @ a hotel (actually kinda really liked this job)... Weird
I worked @ Costco as a stocker...FML
I worked @ another shop that was good, but I hated making crap $$ and busting my butt.
Went to another shop after the above shop stoped paying me... This shop didnt pay enough..
I am currently working 3 12hour shifts @ a diamond drill bit manufacturer... and after 2 days I can already tell I am going to hate it...
WHAT TO DO???
Here are my requirements for a career:
1. Make enough $$$ to support my growing family, and save for retirement, and have modest toys.
2. Feel like I am making a positive difference in the world, basically doing something important.
3. Enjoy going to work, and be good, if not one of the best @ what I do.
I am mechanically inclined, I just dont know if I want to get greasy every day on customers cars, I dont mind getting greasy on my own.
I am great with people and communicate well. I feel like this is my strongest attribute.
I do things right the first time... Dont cut corners... Especially with other peoples $$$ I want them to be confident that I made the best choices with it.
Anyone have any thoughts? I dont want to end up 50yrs old still busting my butt to barely scrape by.
Im a software consultant. I used to when I worked the higher ed vertical but since they moved me to these accounts payable projects I stopped loving it. Its still not a bad job, I just struggle sometimes with these people and dont understand AP as well.
