If your network isn't secured with a WEB key windows sometimes randomly kicks you off of it and waits untill you tell it is okay to connect to an "insecure network". If this is the problem, you can fix it by going to network connections and going to the properties of your wireless connection. It should pop up some kind of message about "Are you sure you want to connect to this network?". You might have to click Disconnect then Connect in order to get this message.

Check the settings on your router by opening up a webroser and typing in the following into the address bar: "192.168.0.1" Your owners manual should tell you what the default username/password is for your router, but its usually admin/admin or admin/blank

Netgear sucks. Having worked for an ISP doing network setups for tons of companies, I can tell you that firsthand.

Try taking the router back and telling them its a piece of shit. If that doesn't work, you need to do a firmware upgrade for the router.
Go to netgears website and do a search for your model number. There will be a file to download that will update the firmware for the router. Download it. I'm not sure if there are instructions with the file you download, but you'll need to get into the web configuration for the router by going to http://192.168.1.1/ (should be netgears default). Login, then find where you update the firmware.

If that doesn't do it, your router is fucked. BTW, if it does work, you might be doing it on a regular basis, updating the firmware that is.

Linksys is the best out there for the price.

Hahahahaha, holy fuck that's a beautiful scam.

Are you guys the fags with the VW bugs?

Serious, 160 bucks to install an OTS router in XP, a 10 minute job. That's great.

No shit... What a rip off. I do freelance tech work and charge $25 bucks an hour, that may sound steep to some but remember that I'm there to fix an appliance much like an electrician or plumber, who charges anywhere from $60-$120 an hour.

Geeksquad gets me a lot of jobs, all I have to do is mention their pricing and all of a sudden the client in question has no problem hireing me.

its definitely the netgear. When I connect through it using cable (using the router as a normal, wired router), the connection shows, but no net access still...

get cisqo/linksys and it will solve all your problems. Ever since I had a few batches of bad routers from netgear I stopped using them for any small networks.

Charlie, its fucking great isnt it? People pay stupid amounts of money for simple shit. I just made $300 a few weeks ago for spending an hour troubleshooting, replacing a HD, and imaging for someone. I basically tell people to pay me %60 of the professional prices because I am not on call (and would not want to be again). Back when I did it full time it paid for my car and tuition easy.
                  Im now E30less.

can you still log into your router? If you never set a password on it some kids may have logged into it and changed settings to be funny. If you cant still log in then do a hard reset on it to chage everything back to factory defaults. then it should auto configure and you can go into it and change anything you want.
