ACLU in theory makes sure that no ones civil liberties are tread upon. They do some good like keeping creationism ("intelligent design") out of public schools, but for the most part they pick on people who have christmas decorations on their desks at work and the like.

The ACLU is sue happy... I do genuinly think we would be better off without them. They will sue a company if they don't promote a person of color over a white person, but my mother's co-worker, who is white, tried to sue for the same reason because she had more qualifications than the black woman who had been hired instead of her. The ACLU basically told her on the phone that she was the wrong color for them to represent. I guess white people can't be disciminated against...
