I haven't read the whole thread yet, but I'd like to go on record right now saying that I DESPISE those "Calvin pissing on something" stickers.

Calvin and Hobbes is my all-time favorite comic strip. I have every single book, and I also have the very last strip that ran clipped and pressed in a book, I plan to have it mounted and framed soon. To me, it was the funniest and well written/drawn comic in decades. Bill Watterson had an uncanny talent for injecting real-world issues and incredibly intelligent humor into that comic, and it makes me ill to think that some peice of shit was able to use the likeness of Calvin to make those stupid stickers.

Second Eurospeed thoughts, why couldn't rednecks find some other icon to rally all of their hate thoughts through like, R-Kelly, thats the bumper sticker I want R-kelly pissing on rednecks. And R-Kelly pissing on a Chevy Monte Carlo with a Nascar number. Don't steal this idea I see a short career as a lawyer if I can get this trademarked.

true, but they also rape our economy, force part of their workforce out of jobs, go on "strikes" that also hurt local/national economy, shut down companies, and some do sub-standard work because they can hide behind their "union" and not get bitched at for said poor job. bassically, they are negative.

I really think its commical when a union goes on "strike". I would call a "strike" quitting - if i operated with union employees and they went on strike - i'd fire every last one of them. The unemployment rate is over 5% nationally i believe (someone correct me if not), and i know that the OR unemployment rate is 6.4% or 6.5% - i'm sure i could find someone who was actually willing to work and greatful for a job and train them to do the job. I'd even do it at a loss for the sake of teaching those idiots that working for a good wage (which as ken said is 20-25% higher on average) - and then bitching about it and "striking" that working for higher wages than most is better than being unemployed.

All I know is that our unemployment rate is the lowest its been in years, even after "Bush lost XXX,XXX,XXX jobs" or whatever horse-face kept saying

Union workers here at Westinghouse don't have any incentive to bust their ass around here. Regardless of the work they do, the union mandates they get a 3.1% raise every year. No more... no less. I have to bust my ass as a salaried employee to get a 3% raise. I had one bad delivery to a customer last year (spelling mistake) and I got a 0% increase in pay over last year.

Meanwhile, I can hear Sam the fucker union guy snorring away in his cube right now.

My father-in-law builds homes and treats his employees amazingly well. When a union rep came to the site to rally his employees to start a union they actually chased the guy off the property.

Another example in the opposite direction my mom was telling me, New Jersey American Water Works moved a bunch of its customer service reps out to St. Louis, MO where the average employee had less than a high school education. They were about to close down the site and do a mass firing when the people there formed a union. Now they can't close down that site  My mom was laughing so hard because a lot of her friends had gotten fired from the NJ located customer service center and the company ended up fucking themselves.

Pittsburgh lost a rediculous amount of money when many of the steel mills closed because the unions priced themselves out of the market. Nice.

                      Unions suck.

Back on topic... yes... I am aware of the interesting cases where a jewish ACLU lawyer defends the KKK... as I did say, the ACLU does do some interesting stuff every now and again.

And yes, I am aware of the Patriot Act. The liberals (read flappy crying pussies) have issues with all of it and supposedly the ultra-conservatives have no problems with any of it using "Well... if you don't have anything to hide why be afraid of it" as their counter argument.

The part that people unequivically have a problem with is the following:

"An act to deter and punish terrorist acts in the United States and around the world, to enhance law enforcement investigatory tools, and FOR OTHER PURPOSES"

Its the part in bold... the vagueness of it... the is the problem. It leaves things open to interpretation which we shouldn't have in a federal law. The rest of the stuff, like letting the FBI know what I check out at the library and other shit like that... nobody has a "right to privacy" in a public place, such as a PUBLIC library. You didn't sign a privacy agreement with the teller at the local bookstore so if someone comes up and asks what you purchased, should be any surprise if they tell someone. If I stand behind you in line I can see what you bought. You don't have a right to privacy in a public arena of any kind.

So DaveCN, realize this... I AM a very highly educated individual. I make it my responsibility to know what MY rights are, even down to how long a local cop has to be following me and how close he has to be to write me a speeding ticket without using VASCAR or Radar/Laser detection. Ignorance of the law is no defense... so... KNOW THE FUCKING LAW, and if something seems to be against your "civil liberties", get a regular lawyer who would probably do this shit probono just for the PR.

k... my bitch fest should be over now.

my understating of the Conservative movement is that it started in the late 50's, early 60s with the Buckley, et al crowd. *shrug*

-of course, debating labels is all but useless.
