Yes an econ major at a top 10 school. Work hard play hard, pays off. But to the OP, don't settle. When they ask you what you expect to make you could always dance around it by saying market rate. If you go this route you better have done your HW and researched what others in your area make (like others have mentioned) and be ready to refute your stance.
