Devon, take this as one of life's lessons -- you can't rely on anyone but yourself. Don't waste your time and energy on hating your Dad or your situation or any bullshit like that, it'll just fuck you in the end.

Take a step back and go "Wow, ok.. that isn't my plan anymore -- what are my options?" Think about what you want, where you can go, and how you can get there and nothing else. Just remember, you are in control of your life -- no one else.

Oh, and stay away from drugs and alcohol because they are just money drains and they cause more problems than they solve.

      THANKYOU awesome advice.
a lot of good input from people. thanks.

not trying to sound like a lil selfish kid, simply ranting, guess in the wrong place lol.

anyway, i'll hit up a college counselor tomorrow. i did some googling and found CC credits are like $60/credit, which i can take care of on my own.

someone asked if i applied to colleges, i didn't. i had been banking on millitary since i was a junior. i took the ASVAB and did great. i had them write up my contract this past august. the family was on board. BUT, in september, a week or two before i was due for MEPS i got into a pretty bad M/C accident, the kind where you're stuck in your house for 6months. im left with a limp/nerve damage in my lower leg. the millitary said sorry but goodbye. it was over before it began for me...i got pictures if anyone is interested lol.

      thanks again for good info/advice.
haters hate, its cool with me.

I'm surprised they said good buy initially. I don't know what exactly that means, but there are officer training programs with a pretty a short(ish) bootcamp that you have to get through. I'm sure you know more about that than I do.

If culinary school is what you want to do... good luck! You'll figure something out, pretty shitty situation though.

Shitty situation? Are you kidding me?

If you want something in life go get it.

Step 1 is NOT to log onto r3v and complain that pops didn't open his wallet upon you command.

If this kid has some brains he can figure it out daddy issues or not.

A "shitty situation" would be defined as something irreversible and conclusive.
The situation presented is nary more evidence that todays generation of greedy chumps will bellyache to anyone who will offer up e-sympathy

          Pathetic.

"Sympathy" is right between "Shit" and "Syphallis" in my dictionary.

            1. It is a tough world out there

            2. If you want it done, do it yourself

            3. You don't deserve a goddamn thing, no one does.

            4. Get your ass to school, whatever it takes.

            5. See #1

From personal experience bro, you should maybe off load the car as a starter, get rid of any extra/unnecessary spending like gym, magazine or online porn subscriptions. Find yourself a nice flexible gig somewhere or even offer your skills for monies (computer repairs, mechanic, or body repair).

Above all make sure to do the leg work and if you don't know where to start find someone to help you out. College advisers at a college (from personal experience most HS guidance counselor don't know shyte or are outdated), a college student you may know (I know you know someone in college) or hell maybe even a teacher. Unfortunately we live in one cruel world and most people are more likely to put you down than help you out, esp. if they don't know you.

Look into what colleges you can and can't afford. Decide if you really want a degree in something or you want to go to a vocational college and be certified in something. And don't be discouraged by 2-yr CC vs. a 4-yr college. It's all about if you're good at what you do. Look into scholarships and grants, remember this is where your ethnicity or "disabilities" can work in your favor; they are scholarships for people who are diagnosed bi-polar.

As a side note, always look out for focus groups for side cash. I hope some of this helps. Keep your head up and never be afraid to ask for help.

You are right. I am greedy because my parents give me money towards my education. I am a lazy chump getting a degree and going out to create a successful career for myself. God forbid my parents help me out.

                  My rational self says:

Go to a Community College the first two years, you'll save some cash, take some classes and figure out what you do and don't like, etc etc.

                  My real self says:

Figure out what you've gotta do to get into a real college THIS FALL (the partying/social aspect is a part of the university experience that I don't think should be missed)! Do not, I repeat, DO NOT "take the fall/semester/year" off, as it is likely you'll never do it. I'm in the same situation now, my work would pay for my MBA, but the thought of going back to school..................well.

But really, CC or University, just make sure you do whatever it takes over the next few months to be in either/or.

And get a 3.5GPA or better your first semester 4.0 is best obviously. This will open up ton's of student aid/scholarships/etc that you had no idea was even available.

these days, it's totally irresponsible as a dad to not plan for your children's education. You work your ass off to give them food, shelter, a sense of right and wrong, etc. etc, but when it comes to their education and future? sorry, fuck you? how does that make sense?

I don't believe in hand outs and this kid is actually quite annoying, but his dad is a fucking deadbeat anyway you cut it. I won't be "giving" my two sons anything but an opportunity. I don't even plan on paying for all of their education, but I started saving into a college account before they were even born; in 18-20 years at least they'll stand a chance at doing something useful with their lives without graduating with a "communications" or some other BS degree and $50-100k in debt.

FWIW my parents wouldn't even *co-sign* a loan so I could go to school. I had to work for it and I will still expect that from my kids. And my father is the epitome of a deadbeat dad.

Maybe its not what you wanna hear, but the military is always hiring. I came out of High School with no savings and parents that didn't save a penny for me. I worked part time at KFC to put myself through the 1st year of CC. When I got tired of frying chicken, I joined the Army...

I have no debt, my college was paid for, and now I have what most would call a very well-paying job.

There are ALWAYS options out there. You just gotta think for yourself, and once you find your path take it to the end.

There's some good advice in here.

OP, sorry to hear your dad screwed you over. It's one thing to feel 'entitled', but it's another to have something PROMISED to you and then taken away to instead buy a luxury item. To everyone saying 'fuck you OP go work your ass off', you're not helping. Just because you had it tough doesn't mean everyone else should have to suffer the same; this isn't some kind of race to the bottom of the barrel. You're just butt-hurt about not getting the same benefits this kid was promised. Get over it. He knows he's going to have to work hard; he knows it will be tough. I don't blame him for being pissed as hell at his deadbeat dad who broke a promise to his son. No matter how you cut it, that's fucked up.

Good luck buddy, remember the most important thing you can do is to get an education. It will pay for itself 100x over, both financially and in life.
