OP should read the "socially awkward penguin" thread.

Farbin that was the best advice ever. Really the reason this society is getting so freaking weak right now. All young people feel entitled to something.

I had to shake my head when I read this. I don't usually discuss my past, because it is that, my past.

But that being said, I was left at the hospital, grew up through various foster homes, ran away from an abusive home at 14, started working at McD's in Ottawa. Hardship, blah blah, many years later, I'm now 26 and I own around $5.5 million in commercial real estate in Ottawa and Toronto, Ontario.

Taking the attitude of "I'm going to bust my ass!" is the right one to take. There are two types of people in this world. One is a character driven person, who will get out of their warm bed to go to the gym because that's the decision they made. The other is the emotional based person, who when things look like they're getting hard, or the grass is getting green somewhere else, they jump ship.

DO NOT live your life making the easy choices, make the RIGHT choices, that are consistent with your goals.

You want to go to cooking school? Great, go do it.
You want to make more money at your job? Super duper, just do it.
Oh, I'm going to win now, just watch my smoke!! That's great, just do it.

What separates winners from losers? The winners just do it! They do it until the job gets done. And they they talk about how great it feels to finally have done something great with their lives. They talk about how great it is that they stuck it out and didn't quit like everybody else, and how happy they are to finally be someone they're proud of.

just finished reading all that...yes all of it! my thread!

i do currently have a job working in a kitchen and yes i love it.
actually a buddy just offered me another part time job helping him ship and partout cars, i immediately said YES!

gonna hit up the bank as soon as i have free time to see how i can make my money work for me...like CD's and shit like that, i ordered one of the "for dumbies" books about investing so that is gonna help me i think.

oh and the reason i didnt apply for colleges/pick one was because i had my heart set on millitary. ever since i was in elementary school i knew what i wanted to be and what i wanted to do. i said this before, i had everything lined up to DEP in back in august/early september. i got injured, millitary got put on hold, after i had a few more surgeries my regruiter gave me the slip. this is really a discussion for another time, just wanted to say my reasons for not sending out apps or taking SAT's, i did take the ASVAB instead lol.
so my dad said back in october, after the recruiters/doctors broke some bad new to me, and i started freaking out about what the hell am i gonna do for my future and life, he said he'd handle the costs as long as i didn't try to attend schools like Harvard or Standford or anything THAT expensive. (my college fund was started, to my knowledge, when i was still in elementary school, so almost 10yrs.)

anyway, im impressed by how long this thread made it...EPIC!
thanks for the encouragement, and trust me, i will bust my ass!!!!!
Looks like you have had an attitude adjustment and the only reason your thread pissed me off in the first place was that you were calling your Dad a piece of shit over it.

My only advice is never rely on anyone but yourself as others have mentioned. Not even friends, family, spouses, anyone. Back yourself #1 and 100%

                        Awesome post from Max btw

I like the direction this thread is going. I stand by my post back on page 3, learn to expect nothing of others cause that is usually the best you ever get. Kick ass post Max, your story makes me proud to be human.

OP, calling your father a piece of shit tells me right there that YOU are the piece of shit.
He's provided for you since you were born. There is a reason he is not giving you the money, your just not giving us the full story.
                            Good luck in life....
