    Zone Alarm antics?

I payed my 25 bucks to use zone alarm (about 6 months ago) and its been very useful. But now when clicking the zone alarm start up icon, theres no way i can get the control splash screent to come up. I go to Processes in Task Manager and i see zclient....i also see vsmon.exe removing itself from the list...then reappearing every 5 seconds and its memory usage going from 2k to 40k, rinse, repeat. WTF is going on? my computer is constantly "working" because of this, and it may be keeping me from playing Battlfield 2 8(

whats going on is zone alarm sucks big dick. My mom had a computer built by a local computer outfit a while back. When they did it, they put in zone alarm. Now she can't use internet explorer without going through AOL (yes she is on cable,, which makes it even more fucked up) - she took it back to the place and they couldn't fix it and I havn't had time to play with it. Bassically - it sucks. Find a way to get it off of there or you'll have problems

Zone Alarm does indeed suck major ass.

To be honest with you, there is no need for a software firewall. I HIGHLY doubt anyone is going to try to hack into your computer. If you feel the need for one, go out and buy a hardware firewall, i.e. router.

After working for an ISP, I learned software firewalls cause nothing but trouble, Norton Internet Security included. Zone Alarm is probably by far the worst though.

i thought it would be a good idea as i was linked into the NCSU's network on campus.....i've always thought ZA was pretty good, with antivirus and firewall, coupled with spybot, my computer has no viruses, pop-ups or slow downs after being up for days. I just system restored and everything SEEMS to be ok...lets hope.

ill keep what you guys said in mind if i have more trouble though, thanks

Uninstall Zone Alarm and drop the $20-$40 for a linsys or d-link router and kiss your problems goodbye. Make sure not confuse "Hub" or "Switch" with "Router" though... Competely different things. Also with a router you will be able to host your own LAN allowing you to share your Internet with other computers you have withough having to purchase extra IP's.

Different programs will sometimes get stuck in an infinate loop of trying to start up and failing, usualy due to a conflict with another program or recent update tot he OS (Operating System). Sometimes though the reason is simply that program blows ass, and/or Windows blows ass, as is life when using a windows PC.

Download Mozilla Firefox and say goodbye to a whole lot of headaches. I was tied in with Kent State's network on campus and I left my computer on for the entire year with no viruses or the like. I have Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition and I use Mozilla Firefox instead of Internet Explorer. No spyware removal software installed and no spyware.

As far as a router goes, buy a Linksys if you are going to get one. They're the best for the money.

Firefox is unnecessary on a PC with XP Service Pack 2 and all the latest updates, including the latest version of IE. I ran Firefox when I had SP1 and a hacked version of Windows, but now that my Windows is legit and up to date I haven't gotten a single virus, spyware, or popups running IE.

thats because you arent an internet dumbass who clicks on everything
i clean up spyware all day at work from computer morons

btw zonealarm is the only software firewall worth having, but hardware ones are still a million times better, but only if properly configured. a linksys router straight out of the box wont do much because by default every single port is open. if you are really worried man up and get a real firewall designed for small office, a cisco pix 501. best small user firewall made.

Some people use Firefox because of the plugin capability not just extra security. It is also the second most standard compliant web browser right behind Safari 2. Internet Explorer is the LEAST standards compliant...

If you know anything, you can easily set up a Linksys to be a firewall, it just doesn't come default that way. If you can read a manual though, you shouldn't have a problem. No need to spend extra money just you have more secure default settings...

yeah if you take the time to accually set thing up but no one does. and by default the cisco is open too, configures like a real firewall tho, none of that gay web access shit.

as someone who is cisco CCNA certified trust me its worth it.

i would try to reinstall zonealarm, sounds like some malware messed with it.
