Its the same reason that when no ones looking, you can make 10/10 free throws, perhaps. But in a championship game, different story. Its all in your mind. Learn some breathing techniques (Im no fucking spiritually-in-tune guru of ANY sort and I thought it was bullshit too) but meditating helps a LOT to quiet the voices in your head. I learned a lot of it in rehab. It works! The first couple times you do 2 minutes of trying to empty your head of EVERYTHING EVERY thought and think of nothing, of total blankness.
Its so hard at first but try it for a couple (5) minutes and gradually do more. Before you know it, it gets easier and you start getting sleepy near the end of your allotted time. It also somehow refreshes you. Then you can start using it for when you go to sleep. But it takes a bit of practice. The first time, youll think it impossible because youre head is a jumble and itll be constant struggle to remove what just replaced your last thought and then when you do that another thought comes in. It can be frustrating but I guarantee you it get better. It will help in these types of situations. I never thought Id be recommending this but it actually works.
