Boston/Connecticut Area Guys

Hey, im going to school in Boston and my family is moving to connecticut (west hartford area). I know there are a few boston guys. How is the scene out there? There really isnt a "scene" to be heard of in Minnesota. Also any good BMW shops that I should know about.

Oh and anyone know of a nice M2 in that area? (my new dream car)

We've got a decent scene. Seems hard to get us all together at one time though. BavAuto show and shine is in October though!

HMS (hmsmotorsport.com) is a great shop, and Schneller, and of course Turner, then there's the Euro Depot a little further north for parts, and BavAuto.

I went to school in boston, and i still live here.
Its a great city, but you have ot be ambitious to find the good night life.
Every body seems to visit the different areas of the city on a cycle.
You'll figure it out..

Yea im so pumped for the music too, looking at all of the artists going through in the first month ill be there put anything in the last year in minnesota to shame.

I just saw On Broken Wings (Boston hardcore) and man were they amazing.

Like TJ already noted, the Boston music scene is huge, but mainly the metal/hardcore scene is thriving right now. TONS of local acts and many venues in Boston. If you're more into jam-band type stuff, Providence is 1 hour away and has an awesome nightlife all around.

Since you're from MN, I'm guessing you're used to driving in snow. But you may not be used to the SHITTIEST ROADS ON EARTH. I don't just mean pot-holes and rough surfaces (but there are plenty of those). I mean crazy routes that are inefficient for traffic and are clogged from accidents constantly. There are pros and cons to us Masshole drivers: there's more accidents/delays here, because people are crazy douchebags - but you can usually get where you want at whatever speed you want because... people here are crazy douchebags. Just be prepared.

If you're under 21 and like to drink, especially in public, you'd better have a good friggin' fake ID. Down in Providence the mob still runs everything and a 5'6" Irish white kid could use a Ken Griffey Jr. baseball card for ID when going to a bar on the weekend. It's much more strict and regulated in Boston. But then there's the fall, aka MLB playoff time and basically anything goes in the streets (well atleast until last year when that chick decided to get her face in the way of a rubber police bullet). I hope you like the Red Sox. Or at least hate the Yankees. Same thing.

Beemerfanatik pretty much covered the BMW shops in the area. There's a ton E30 guys in eastern MA. There's quite a few in southern NH, too. Lots of meets at F1 Boston (cart racing in Bridgewater, 15 min out of the city) and plenty of guys to help out if you need an extra hand wrenching.
Brew, DanGillan and myself are renting a house in Framingham (just west of Boston) and are going to a BMW sponsored auto tech program... so you'll be pretty close to whats quickly going to become THE E30 house.

What school are you going to? Feel free to ask any specific questions about the area.

Dan's just pissed because he got a ticket for running a stop sign, and tried to do a carpet swap, headliner swap with custom suede prototype headliner, seats, door panels, and a few other items all in one day - and it didn't work out exactly as planned ;)

Yea im fairly experienced in Boston driving. My brothers friend owns a shop in close to BU. Im thinking I may be able to get a job there, I wish I knew the name of the shop now...
Im going to BU. I hope to see you guys in the fall, I would love to check out the F1 karting place. I have a membership at a local place. I wonder how I will manage w/o a car for a while though.

You'll be fine without a car. Welcome to a city full of mass transit. Not fun, but you can get pretty much anywhere for a buck. (Or is it more now?)
