    places to see in D.C.

I've been here for a few days now, and have gotten pretty bored.
Seen all the "major sights" around, ie the Mall, Georgetown, and Dupont Circle Area. I'm staying up in Woodley Park, and have already seen the Embassy row. Any interesting places to go to photograph?

The Waterfront is nice, Bethesda Row could have a few great shots as well. Georgetown is really nice for some older architecture.

I have been trying not to be an ass as much especially online where people just assume I am an Ethug sometimes, but really... WTF you are in the nations capitol surrounded by some of the most beautiful architucture in the US, some of the most moving monuments I have ever seen and home to museums that are astonishing and free!

How on earth can you be bored? Major sites? The fucking mall? Really?

I challenge you to go to the Holocost Museum and try to walk out of there without a tear running down your cheek. Stand at the base of the Washington Monument walk the Vietnam memorial wall... Fuck me are you some 16 year old kid who doesnt have his psp to keep him dumb to the outside world for the first time?

        End rant/

I hate DC. You're not missing much.... ;)

Roll through all the Simthsonian buildings, White House, W'ton monument, etc, etc. Reflecting pool, Lincoln Memorial. There's a shit ton to do. Hell, roll up to the Baltimore Aquarium in MD.

Shit, go to the hotels next to Dulles and pick up some airline chicks, hit the Air and Space museum while there (they have an SR-71 Blackbird!!!!!)

Dude. I don't know if I offended you, and I was not trying to insult Washington DC, its history, or anything. I've just been here many times, and was looking for somewhere new to visit/photograph. Not 16, just a college student. Never been the gamer type either. :D

Another aimless question: Are there a lot of foreign market cars here? I've seen a Peugeot hatch, and some cool other euro cars, just seemed kinda interesting to me, with all the foreign workers/diplomats here.

Jesus christ, dude, DC isn't THAT cool

EDIT: be ssure not to dance, have fun, or enjoy any basic freedoms in/around/near monument areas lest you be the next big story on the internet about abuse of police powers

^ truth. that dude is off his rocker.

if you like outdoorsy stuff, i'd hike the billy goat trail. its a nice little walk along the potomac. lots of great shot potential.

DC is a characterless city. It's a place where people go to step off to somewhere. A starting point. No-one wants to stay there. They just have to be there for a while to get where they are going. Only reason some stay is for the airline girls at the Dulles Hilton or because they get stuck in a rut. Sometimes a combination of both.

also, for outdoorsy stuff, Great Falls is just about the best you can hike within a 1/2 hour drive of DC.

here's one of my favorite paths:

Attached is a picture of the parking lot to park in. Start off leaving the parking lot headed east following the horse trail (watch for poo). after a short while you will go underneath a roadway and a bit later you will hit the main trails E/NE of the parking lot.

The main trail is covered in pebbles, not dirt/rocks and makes for a good walk but you can poke around and find neat little paths that are more natural and some lead to neat places. You can even swim over to the Maryland side is you wish.

Side note: Georgetown Pike isn't a bad drive either. If you're lucky and the road is empty you can really rip around some of the corners

I would really advise against swimming in any part of the potomic. The currents/undertow are really nasty and people go missing every year.
