I find the best way to push a car is to basically lean or sit against the back of the car, grab the bumper (lifting seems to help, especially going up hill) and push.

Fucking Bay Area, the roads are so bad around here it really makes me sick. We pay first world taxes and get third world roads.

The roads here are much better than what we encountered in the NE US. I can't believe how bad things got down there but still didn't rub or scrape on anything.

Amen. They just recently started to smoothen out the piece of shit Hwy 880. Still there's one section of Hwy 24/980, right before the 880 south merge that there's an inevitable crack where the two bits of pavement split. You know what I'm talking about? I'd actually say that the best roads are in the Lamorinda area, everything this side of the tunnel fucking sucks.

                        THIS.

I drove my e30 up a class 4 road last week with passengers and I didn't break my pan. How do you manage?

                            Here is the story...

We had a caravan of about 6 E30's en route to gutenfest on the Belt Parkway (one of the most shit roads ever). I was leading but i was lowest, I hit a gap that had been resealed before a bridge, almost the equivalent of hitting a medium sized speed bump at about 65. The car behind me pulled up aside me and told me I was smoking and we immediately pulled off the parkway, I got about 1/8 mile off the ramp and turned the car off. We hopped out and watched 3 quarts just dump out from under the car. The problem was that with the M42's super low pan my skid plate pretty much butted right up under the pan maybe and 1/8 -1/16 of an inch of clearance between the plate and pan. So when I hit nailed that bump it pretty much transferred the energy of the impact straight to the pan. After this happened I had that wtf now feeling, as i had been eagerly awaiting gutenfest for months and now my car was dead in the middle of brooklyn, an hour from my house and an hour and change from Guten in Jersey. I figured a tow truck was my only option so i proceeded to take up all four coilovers to 4x4 status in an effort to save my lip if she needed to be put on a flatbed.

Everyone in the caravan had exited with me and stayed throughout though. With a hand and tools from all the combined e30 guys, a few trips to a autozone, 2 tubes of gastank apoxy repair, 4 quarts of new oil, 15 cigarettes and a bunch of help from them we successfully patched the crack. I was nervous at first to drive it but I made it in 4x4 status all the way to Jersey for the show about 4 hours late.

She made it Guten where i i left her for Levent to get a new oil pan shipped in, we also added new m5 motor mounts which raised the whole engine up about an inch, so now its much safer and wont transfer friction.

It was basically a really shitty situation, but in the end of the day knowing that these guys in the e30 community were cool enough to stick with me, get dirty, share tools, make parts runs and even give me and my buddy a ride back from the show really makes me happy to be a part of this

^That's epic. One of my favorite things about the E30 community.

I'm helping a guy I haven't met yet change his head gasket this coming weekend. He asked me how much I wanted for helping him. I think he fell over when I told him I just wanted to help him out...

M5 Motor mounts! Looks like I'm going to need some. How hard do ya think it is for the install?
