yeah I work at an ABC station and I was at work when the broadcast was sent in. I had to cover our local programming to accomodate the special. Its a sad day at ABC.
Jennings was more than a reporter on the evening news, he was a great journalist. Most news media folk bug me for one reason or another, but I did respect Jennings. I liked his style and his work. What I didn't know was that all these years he was a Canadian citizen and it wasn't until the events of 9/11 did he persue getting US citizenship.

President Bush praised Jennings' work, and said Americans will miss his reporting.
"Laura and I were saddened to learn about the death of Peter Jennings," Bush said. "Peter Jennings had a long and distinguished career as a news journalist. He covered many important events, events that helped define the world as we know it today. A lot of Americans relied upon Peter Jennings for their news. He became a part of the lives of a lot of our fellow citizens, and he will be missed. May God bless his soul."
Isn't America supposed to be secular? What happened to the separation of church and state?

What the fuck are you on? He made a personal statement, President Bush is a christian, and makes no effort to hide his faith. It's not like he stated a federal mandate for everyone to bow down and pray for Jennings' soul.
Ha ha... easy there. My med situation is all good…I think?
Anyway, as the President he does not have the benefit of personal statements.
How would you have reacted if he had asked Ala to bless Mr. Jennings soul? What about Satan… would that be cool if the President was a Satanist? Does America have a policy on souls, is it confirmed they exist? In my opinion America has been working towards becoming a theocracy for a long time... just thought the quote was interesting.

Last time I checked, the first amendment applied to the president of the United States as well. Since "Allah" (learn to spell) is the islamic word for God, I think the statement would hold the same resonance.
Ha ha!!!! I'm from Canada... good call on the bong.
My apologies on the Allah! At least I got Satan right. Hmmm...
Oh well.
Edit, this is what you speak of?:
"AMENDMENT I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."
I understand the above but, I still think it is in poor taste for a world leader to spout religious dogma.
