It's white, it contains the whole visible spectrum. The Earth's atmosphere filters it though, that's why it looks yellowish closer to the zenith point, and reddish when it's closer to the horizon (the rays pass through more air to get to you).
The color of the light is determined by its wavelength, so the color of a light emitting object is determined by wavelengths of the rays it is emitting.
Why non light emitting objects have different colors was explained previously.Last edited by Conki; 07-28-2011, 08:08 AM.Leave a comment:

Then why is the sun yellow....? :pThe sun (or light source) puts out a spectrum of light waves. Some are absorbed by the object it hits, and some are reflected to our eyes. That is why, in different lights, some colors appear different. It has nothing to do with the color of the object changing. Its because the light source is emitting a different spectrum of light...so different colors are being reflected to your eye.Leave a comment:

He is sort of right.
The red car absorbs all colors except red. It reflects red light to our eyes.

Another fun observation of the scientific world, that is entirely related to the double slit experiment.
Our brains, can directly affect the universe and random selection. There have been studies that have proven that the intention of our mind can lean it towards that event.
Random number generators have been swayed away from randomization by people just focusing on one of the outcomes by the generator.
ALSO!
To tie into that... Buddhist monks have put 100% Pure distilled water, Depending on the Chi's that they were exposed to (All sealed), the water itself had it's molecular structure altered and created different frozen crystals with replicable outcomes depending on which chi is was exposed to.
ALSO!
To tie into THAT!
The brain, can alter an electrical device. 4 Monks around a table with an "Intention Imprinted electrical devices" in the middle of all them would meditate, "cleanse the environment", and 1 would speak the intention they desired the device to do..
This experiment, could replicate results of altering the PH of sealed, purified water up to one full point.
And, alter that water after being mailed 2000 miles.
ALONG WITH THAT! (Last one, I promise)
A tape recording. Recorded on two tapes at the same time, of alternating clicks on the left and right sides.
One tape was handed to a person, while the other tape was kept in a faraday cage. That person would focus on either one of sides having more clicks.
Both tapes were popped into tape players.
And the tape that was handed to the person, that they focused on the outcome, altered the tape recording to the outcome that they desired.
This experiment showed that the brain could actually affect the outcome of something that had already taken place. Effectively transcending the laws of physics, and the space time continuum.
I fully believe our brain (The collection of cells and multiple organisms) understands most of the mysteries of universe, if not all of them.
It's our conscious that cannot.
That's a WHOLE different ballgame and conversation that's a mix of science, philosophy, and psychology. But, that's just what I think.Last edited by TurboJake; 07-26-2011, 05:50 AM.Leave a comment:

Yeah, we discussed this at great length in my "Philosophy of Mind" class.
IIRC, I remember something about how there is not a physical mechanism anywhere between the eye/brain that should "decode" color from our environment.
Wild stuff. Easily the best class I took in college.
I just wish I could find the outline for "Buddyism" that I developed as a new religion for an argumentative paper.Leave a comment:
