The connection will only be used for browsing around a few YouTube videos, and changing songs using iPhone remote connected to my laptop. So no heavy usage like watching movies or downloading music.

Your average router, sans dd-wrt, can be used as a bridge. Also, if you use the same ssid and security settings, 95% of devices will automagically hop to the best signal. Just be sure to use a different channel.

Fuck wireless, you should get the LiveWire setup going. It feeds a internet connection straight into the power cables running throughout your home. I use the following:

I keep the router at one end of my house and I'm able to game with super low latency on the other side.

        Highly recommend!

I had the same thing I needed to do. I did a ddwrt repeater on a $40 linksys. Worked like a charm.

DD-WRT is easy as hell to set up and is more stable than any stock firmware (except for Cisco, but that's corporate stuff - not Cisco Linksys, the Cisco branded stuff). Buy a cheap router that's supported (check http://dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices ) and make it a wireless AP. Powerline has a high initial entry fee compared to a DD-WRT AP, but is also a good option.

I've been using DD-WRT on old hardware for a long time, and I must say that it make your average home router much more reliable. I have had some running unattended for other people for 5 years now without needing intervention. I stopped using it as my primary router because I replaced it with something a little more powerful (untangle/2x 2.8GHz Xeon/4GB ECC/raid 1 SCSI).
