No kidding, Archie. As for the OC scene, remember Rip It Up? All of us were jumping on the bandwagon. My friend and I owned Kupono Surfboards and did the clothing thing, too. I was too focused on surfing and the lifestyle to take it very far. The Rip It Up cat lived near us and we were bummed he got into Nordstrom before us. Best we got was Newport Surf 'n Sport and I think Jack's, back when it was next to Things For Your Head.

Newport Surf and Sport I remember and also Miller Outpost. Also in The City Of Orange was a store called Wild West off the 22fwy and Tustin Ave. Tons of cool clothing in there!

Exactly. You went there to buy Levi's 501s but the other shit was suspiciously out of date. Kind of hillbilly, but hey, the prices on Levi's were good.

You and I probably went to the same Miller's Outpost at the Orange Mall. Back then, the Orange 6 movie theater was where a Walmart now stands. In '84 I got a ticket for exhibition of speed for doing a raucious reverse-to-drive burnout in the parking lot in my mom's old Cadillac on a Friday night. The Caddy was a '77 Sedan de Ville with the 425ci engine which had become a family spare car and I used to drive it when my Fiat Spider was broken (no fault of the car, just abuse). Friends called it the Badillac or the Partilac (park-n-party, remember that term?).

Back to the pic post, the scene reminds me of the arcade at Regal Lanes, the bowling alley on Tustin Avenue which has been closed for like 20 years. It was probably the best arcade in the OC back then.

Let's not forget about Tustin Lanes. Awesome Arcade back then also.

OMG, the fucking Cinedome! Thanks for the pic! I forgot about that, too. The wayback machine is in full effect. My friend and I were park-n-partying there and we both got some tickets, something like an open container but I think it wasn't as harsh (by '80s standards). I forgot what exactly it was, but we were both minors. The cop also dumped out the stash and squished it with his foot before he left. Naturally, we found what was left and resumed.

Tustin Lanes. I think that place is still there, isn't it?

i had one of their thrusters (wave tools), my first long board was a G&S blue bomber.

i still have a bunch of the classic Gordon and Smith logo t shirts (i always get asked where i got them when i wear them....you can still buy them new)

i also have a "vintage" G&S skateboards key chain from around 86-87 that is my keychain.

being from AZ i was more into skateboarding then surfing, but every year we were "zonies" in San Deigo for a month and i did a lot of surfing at Tourmaline, OB, Oceanside/Del Mar, and i even went to "The Wedge" once in Newport beach

Hey archie, what was the name of that drive-in on Katella we all used to park-n-party at? In '85 my gf and I were there and she was on the rag, so I pushed for a bj. She asked me not to jizz in her mouth but it was either that or on the leather of my dad's car, so in her mouth it went lol.

My buddy 15 yrs old and borrowed her sisters car(yes borrowed),got some wine coolers(yes, wine coolers!! ) Started drinking in the parking lot at the Cinedome and the cops pulled up behind us. Stashed our drinks under the seats and was asked for the booze. We lied and said we had none. Got asked to get out of the car and they found it.
They were watching us from over the fence at the motel. Thats how I got my minor in possession at 15 there.
But yes, your right, wasnt so harsh back then for it.

                            Tustin Lanes is still there!

Massive nerdgasm over the pic with the TRON machines. I just did a cable install for a girl a few months ago who is renting a house from some people my/our age that are living overseas, and they have one of those exact TRON machines in their garage, it doesn't work, tho. (I'm a huge TRON nerd, if you can't tell).

Nice. Since you were in AZ, I'm gonna guess you didn't have much in the way of skate shops. Did you used to order from Val Surf who used to advertise in Skateboarder magazine?

I was lucky; we had a killer skatepark, the Big O, right nearby on Chapman Avenue at Tustin Avenue in Orange, where I used to buy all my shit. I remember watching the Pro-Am and Duane Peters giving guys crop haircuts in the bathroom. I think that was '81. Big O installed some waterpark shit in the middle of the place, with those tubes you slide down. They were killer clear ones. Shortly thereafter, one broke as a kid slid down, and the kid was hanging on as the next kid slid down. Bad scene. I think the lawsuits killed the skatepark. Maybe Archie will remember this better.

Here's Duane Peters at the Big O. I'm gonna guess this is '81 by the pink wheels.
