Go somewhere in Georgetown, maybe The Tombs. Then possible check out Adams Morgan; there are a ton of places there.

I don't know too many places in DC because I'm usually blacked out from a pregaming before I head out. Its expensive up there so I don't like to start my evenings sober.

I think The Tombs made a Maxim "Best Bars" list or something like that this year...

they have many good restaurants and bars there. cafe la ruche is one of my personal favorites.
