    PS2 Technical problem

I know a lot of you on here own PS2's, and some of you probably play DVD's on yours so you might be able to help me out.

To start off, I know even bottom of the line DVD players are probably better than a PS2 for watching DVD movies, but its what I have and I don't really feel the need to buy a DVD player.

Anyways, when I am watching DVD movies on my PS2 I get a mid-low pitched noise/static/buzzing sound. It cycles... it starts off, then slowly gets louder for about 10 seconds, then shuts off again for about 5 seconds, repeat, repeat. One thing I have noticed is that if there is post-editing, such as a graphic text or logo on the screen the sound changes and gets louder, then goes back to normal when the graphic is off the screen (such as the opening sequences with actor's names).

I am using an RF Adapter instead of the RCA cables since my TV doesn't have RCA inputs. I suspect this to be the problem, but I don't have a good way of testing it. Is the problem more likely to be the PS2 itself, or could it be the RF Adapter? Are they a poor design in themselves or is mine just dying? Should I buy a new one?

    Thanks in advance.

Sounds to me like your TV is causing interference with the PS. If it's old enough not to have RCA then it's probably not sheilded all that well. I doubt it's your PS that's the culprit.

No way of really knowing though unless you can swap TVs or PS's

It did the same thing with our newer TV at home as well, but it was also using the RF adapter.

RF is the worst of the worst interface. I would bet money that is the problem. Try RCA on the newer TV.

Will do. Thanks! I'd sort of like to buy a new TV anyways.

I'm no visual/audiofile but I was quite shocked at the diffference going from an RCA composite connection on my PS/2 to an Componant connection.

I really didn't expect to see much difference, but I was quite wrong, expecially with small type on screen, now even tiny type is quite readable.

I had this problem when I was playing videogames. Unfortunatley I couldn't solve the problem, and had to use the Best Buy warantee to get myself a new one.

This was about 2 years ago.

There's no greater power than X! Never had a problem with DVD'S on the Box. Can't tell the difference with my Samsung DVD player.

Definately get away from the RF. I used to use that with my original PS. Never looked or sounded clear. Constant interference.
