    Inline 6 Toyota engine question

I am looking at a 96 Land Cruiser with a 4.5 liter 6. By all accounts these engines are virtually bulletproof & with care good for upwards of 300k. That is why I was surprized when I found one with 150k claiming a rebuilt engine. I asked the seller what was rebuilt and was shocked to learn only the bottom end.

Does it not seem odd that a bottom end only problem would occur?

Try taking out an 18 inch rock in a vehicle with 11 inches of ground clearance.

    That's my bet.

Swing wild, brake later, don't apologize.

      Yep, mine too.

I had an early 80's Supra (Celica Supra back then) and it had the straight six. It was bulletproof (the block that is).

        Hadn't thought of that. Thanks.

I have seen several with 200,300k with rebuilt topends and that makes sense. I had an 86 Supra which ran forever.

My parents have a '89 Land Cruiser with 230k miles with a stock top and bottom end. It's feeling a bit tired though, especially when hauling a trailer load full of crap up a hill.

I've heard early inline 6 Landcruisers share some engine parts with a inline 6 chevy nova.
