External HD problems...

I need help with an external HD, I had a PC crash on me a few months ago... I took out the harddrive and put it into an external enclosure. Plugged it in to a brand new computer with the USB drive.. it says that there is nothing on the hard drive and that it can't read anything. The computer that crashed gave me the blue screen of death, but on my new computer it can't pull the data that I need terribly.

If anyone has some information I'd appreciate it, thanks.

The hard drive you put in the enclosure is out of the computer that crashed? What does it sound like when you plug it in/flip the power on? I hate to say this, but it sounds like you may have a dead HDD. The only other thing I would try is a different enclosure in the chance that the one you are using may not be working.

Do you know what cause your pc to crash? Was the operating system installed on the hdd your put in the enclosure?

Technically speaking, you don't NEED porn. Just saying. ;)

If it's making noise, you can more or less kiss it good-bye. One thing you can try is to put it in the freezer for a while(hour or so). It sounds odd, but it's worked for me in the past. You'll have a few mins to get the data off if it works.

There is some software that some people claim works well. It's called spinrite (but I don't know if it will work over USB. You might need to plug it in directly - not sure)

It doesn't make any noise, and I have a buddy who passed away a few months ago and I have millions of photos on my old HD that I want to look at and save to show my family and friends. + about 600,000 photos from photoshoots that I have done over the years since day 1. Should have backed it up before, such a dumb move that I didn't.

I'll try a different enclosure, it's just scaring me to turn it back on.

The gentlemen that mentioned the freezer trick is also correct. As weird as it seems, it has worked for me sometimes in the past. Also "hanging" the hard drive will sometimes work, just make sure to not drop it. Do you hear the sucker spin up at all when it is initially plugged in by chance?

A HDD is a HDD is a HDD... Brand does not limit a hard drive from crashing, lol.

Yeah cause Macbooks don't use hard drives...

Like GG said, throw it in the freezer. Make sure it is in a freezer bag first so you don't get any condensation in it. I'd do 24 hours just to be sure.
