Cale, i do agree with you on some level. But I think to this day the few times there were serious diciplinary reprocussions for my actions as a child or young teen I deserved it, and i more than learned my lesson. Both my parents and my step dad to this day would do anything to save my ass if i was ever in serious trouble. Even though I didnt enjoy my childhood punishments, i know that they will always be there for me, and i do my best to never disappoint them even though im on my own now.

So even though some might see childhood asswhoopins as wrong, i feel like its almost a right of passage that shows your family can be so mad/love you so much at the same time that they will cross the line. Sure, at the time it sucks, but now that i think back on it i know that my whole family will lay it all on the line for me and I for them .

Beatings by dad and mom gave me "disappointed". I actually cared more when mom was mad at me.

The last beating I got ended with me tossing dad out the door, and ending in a fist fight on the lawn. This was after working construction all summer with him. We were about equal in strength and size at that point so it ended in a stale mate and that was it after that

I disagree, it was just cause and effect. I was going to go out and be a little shit because i am my father's son, so it was inevetable.

God help me if i have kids. At least they wont be able to get away with much

HAHAHA I was a shit head. I was not abused in the least. I deserved every single ass kicking I ever got, and plenty that I never received

Spankings on top of spankings. And it was from whatever belt my father was wearing at the time. If no belt it would be a stick or whatever lays nearest. I learned over time I guess lol

Also it is safe to bet 70% of r3v still gets spanked by their father's xD Bunch of kids on here man

This brings up another interesting question for me. Now I know our parents were't all stupid since they could potentially be in the "been there, done that" category of life. So then, when we as children or youngsters were being sneaky and, deceitful, mischievous, promiscuous (if that is the proper word), or the likes, did we really get away with it or did we just think we got away with it? I mean, did our parents really not have any clue about our intentions or were they just giving us the space to grow?

I know what I was capable of, so in a sense, I now know what my future children can be capable of. I don't think the same excuses/cover stories that I used on my parents will work on my from my kids.

Dammit this is making me think too much. This is me procrastinating from studying for my midterms.

You're supposed to be able to function using the first two prior to getting to the point where discipline is necessary. You were born with a sense of morality, your parents only foster it and help it expand.

And it is abuse, striking a child is physical abuse. That's not opinion, that's factual definition.

random swats and hits or whatever, my step dad tried to hit me when i was 14 and i went after him with a baseball bat that i hammered huge rusty nails into

needless to say, i had to go to therapy afterwards and no one ever tried to hit me again...just got grounded on occasion
